Do you have to have an MC and a DJ at your wedding?

Do you have to have an MC and a DJ at your wedding?

I was under the impression that I could do without a MC and just have my DJ introduce us and the father daughter dance. But other than that just play music. But I was told that if I dont get an MC noone would introduce us and announce the first dance and the father daughter dance. What is your opinion? Thanks~!

I have only met with one DJ so far, but he said that we should have an MC as well as a DJ, I think it is based on the # of total people at your wedding, we are looking around 170. I think a DJ can handle and will introduce BP, but I think it just depends on how many guests there are, they may need two people to handle the crowd. At least, that is what the one DJ told me.

Its really up to you. I am having a DJ and MC, but most DJs will do both for you anyway.

Our DJ did both. I would suggest you speak to your DJ company and see what they will provide and what the DJ is willing to do. I would say save the money. You can also ask your catering hall and see if the Matre'd would be willing to do it, if you DJ refuses. Mine offered but, it wasn't necessary. HTH.

we are having both. it wasn't really a conscious choice - it was just the package that was in our price range.

As far as I know my DJ is doing both the music playing and all the announcing!

when we talked to DJ's they said sometimes it can depend on the size of your wedding. like a MC may not be necessary to do announcements and energize the crowd if you have under 120 guests or so.

it all comes to personal choice. FH and i wanted a separate DJ and MC, to ensure that they are BOTH focused on their own jobs. like the DJ is ONLY concerned with his mixes and such, and the MC is ONLY concerned with his duties. a lot of times the MC can practically become another maitre d', since they have to coordinate the music with big events (i.e.--first dance, father/daughter, garter toss, cake cutting, etc.)

do whatever makes you comfortable!

we are having a dj only and he is making the announcements!

We want as LITTLE talking as possible so we did not hire an MC. We are not into having someone shout 'LETS GET THIS PARTY STARTED!!!' all night long like we saw in some of the DVDs DJs sent us.

Regardless of the size of the wedding, the DJ can easily announce the BP and announce the few 'events' that happen that night.

LMAO!! i agree, though some mc's are very good and don't do all the weird shenanigan's (games) that are common at weddings. yech!!

Our DJ will be making the announcements, but from behind his set-up, not within the crowd. I don't need an MC to motivate or pump up the crowd - my family will do that themselves with alcohol!

we booked vinny from high voltage and i asked him about neeeding an mc or not and he basically told me that you only need an MC if you need someone to go out there and pretty much drag people onto the dancefloor and really motvate them. We booked a package with aa DJ only but he brings an assistant with him to lead group dances and what not and does the announcments from the dj booth

Oh Im sure! I will never forget the look on FHs face when we popped the DVD from the DJ in.. these MC's 'gettin' the party started' is a VERY Long Island thing and I think he was scared that we'd have to have it. I think he pictured his little old aunts passing out!

I went to a weddin gthis past weekend where the MC was Sooo annoying! Playing games, trying to get the party started, making people clap and do weird things, bad jokes....Please make sure your MC doesn't do this!!! I felt like I was at a sweet 16! Research before choosing!

Before my wedding...I would have said yes, but since my wedding...I say no. If you have a good DJ an MC is not necessarily needed. We had a horrible DJ & MC, so unfortunately my experience is bitter!

I had both, but honestly the mc really did not have to do anything bc the whole time everyone was up dancing! ur call though, he did do all the intro's perfect!!!

i am having both - that was the basic package though. . .

BUT my MC will not be ummmm 'motivating' people which is so not how i picture my wedding. . . i just want him to announce the important events and like i said 400x when i booked them, if people are not dancing - change the song. . . its not like people FORGOT to dance - they just dont like the music . . . well i didnt say that last part but you know what i mean!

if u get a DJ who can double as an MC then it's perfectly fine.

FM Entertainment offers that. We got 2 people, but if u do a search on this site, there are other brides who have just used Frank for both roles.

One DJ tried to pull that one on us - needless to say we didn't book them. What a load of garbage. Personally I don't like MC's and wanted someone who didn't talk a lot. Just do the announcements and the other little things and that's it.
