Do you have to have an MC and a DJ at your wedding?

Original post by peachiskin

I was under the impression that I could do without a MC and just have my DJ introduce us and the father daughter dance. But other than that just play music. But I was told that if I dont get an MC noone would introduce us and announce the first dance and the father daughter dance. What is your opinion? Thanks~!

My brother works for a big dj company... and he said at weddings its imperative to have.. they separate the duties and the music is seemless...it takes away any hint of a problem... alot of the professional djs can do it alone but its really alot better for the party to have both

for smaller parties, sweet 16, etc its alot more optional

id go with the MC... you can find some really resonable dj/mc combos...

We want as LITTLE talking as possible so we did not hire an MC. We are not into having someone shout 'LETS GET THIS PARTY STARTED!!!' all night long like we saw in some of the DVDs DJs sent us.

Regardless of the size of the wedding, the DJ can easily announce the BP and announce the few 'events' that happen that night.

On that note~ Dj's should start adding a 'DO NOT SAY' list to their Do NOT Play lists!

'Lets get this party started' and 'Can we get everyone on the floor for this next song by Jennifer Lopez' would be the 2 at the top of my list!

Djs usually do the announcing. But if you're concerned, ask them before signing!

I found that having an MC made the coordination go much more smoothly with the Maitre'd. It was a lot easier for him to get around & talk to the staff at the hall b/c he was not stuck behind the booth, and also b/c he was not busy with the actual music. It was definitely worth it.

Our DJ will be making the announcements, but from behind his set-up, not within the crowd. I don't need an MC to motivate or pump up the crowd - my family will do that themselves with alcohol!

Same thing here.
