I ran out of invitations and am thinking of NOT sending the minister who is marrying us an invitation.

He has to show up because he is marrying us!!!

as a courtesy, you're supposed to send him an invitation, so he feels welcome to attend the reception....

I dunno what to do in your situation since you're out of invitations.... maybe write a note in a card?

Our officiant said politely that he will stay for a beer and some shrimp at cocktail hour, but does not attend receptions.

So.... I wouldnt worry about it.

well, i think it depends on where you're getting marrried... if you hired someone to marry you (like a vendor) than I would say it's nice to invite them ,but they dont' usually stay. if it's a member of the clergy (priest, deacon, rabbi, reverend, etc.) you should invite them. most don't come. our priest stayed for the entire reception, but he is a friend of DH's so there is a personal connection there.
