Do you Invite Officiant?

Do you Invite Officiant?

Hi all, most weddings I go to the officiant is present at the reception. But all of the wedding I have gone to in the past have been church weddings where the officiant was also someone who knew the family well.

So, if I am paying for an officiant do I also need to invite them to the reception? And if so, can I count them as a vendor instead of a guest?

We met ours that day- the priest that we did our pre-cana with and who took us through the whole process was transferred. So we did not invite the priest that did the ceremony.

I would have invited the other priest.

i think most ppl answered that it was proper etiquette when someone asked it a little while back, which was news to me! i didnt know you were supposed to either, but i would imagine if they get an invite then they are considered a guest and not a vendor, but i'm not sure

I think you are supposed to invite them. I called my officiant and asked him. He just stayed for the cocktail hour.

It's appropriate to invite your officiant, but not necessary if you don't know him/her.

I definitely don't feel like you need to invite them. My Pastors I've known since birth so they'll definitely be performing the ceremony AS WELL as attending the reception afterwards. But for people who are hiring an officiant, i think it's a totally different story! You obviously CAN invite them to be polite, but it's not rude if you don't. I mean, I'm having somebody do my hair who won't be at the wedding or reception. Just because somebody's hired to be involved in the wedding, if they're not a 'friend' I wouldn't add them (unless your budget can allow it with no problem). I doubt an officiant would be insulted. He probably doesn't even want to come because then he's got to bring a gift and sit with people he doesn't know. It's weird. That's my opinion at least.

We asked our officiant since we are having the ceremony at the RH and we didn't want to be rude like 'ok you're done, get out!' BUT we really didn't want to have to pay any extra money... Luckily she said that she might stick around for a few mins after the ceremony into the CH, but she's gonna bounce right after
