i didn't have a priest, but i did invite the reverend and his wife to the reception.
not everyone does. it depends on how close to them you are, if you have the space/money, and if you really want to.

It's really up to you. We invited our officiant, he didn't come but he replied that he appreciated the gesture.

If you know the priest.... We are, but it's because he's a friend of the family. He baptized me so I asked him to marry me too. From what I hear a lot of times they don't show unless they are good friends of the family. Remember - priest you don't need to invite a guest!

Re: Do you invite the Priest to the reception?
We really like our priest but FH isn't sure if he wants to invite him...I think it would be nice and then he can give us a blessing before the toasts and everything...I will have to get FH to agree with me...he might not even want to come, but the food at Windows is SO GOOD...who could resist?

I was told its the proper thing to do so I did but he didn't come. Usually they will only come if they have known you for a while.

We did - and it's pretty funny when you see pictures from the casino with him in the background... He kept telling everyone 'I can't help you win!'

We are inviting our priest. He doesnt know the family well b/c he is new at the church so he said he is looking forward to meeting our families at the reception.

Re: Do you invite the Priest to the reception?
Technically, you should... he's the reason you'er able to have the party afterwards!!!!!!!! Etiquette-wise, I think it's in agood taste. but hoenstly, many don't come for a variety of reasons: they may not know you or your family well, they have other commitments that day, they just don't want to, etc.
We are inviting ours as he is a family friend and we know he is coming.

We did. We have known him for years. He came and stayed for a while but not for the whole thing.
