Re: DO YOU LADIES
I think that you may need to seek some counseling. Were you involved in a fire before? It is very common to have severe anxiety after having a terrifying experience.

Awwwee....nothing that severe, but I do have a sick fear of fish and sometimes I wake up screaming because of nightmares.

Do you have a smoke detector? Maybe you will feel better if you have one.

I used to be the same as you and even kept a tote by my bed with favorite photos, clothes & shoes to put on, left my wallet or purse in there. I out grew it though. I dont know how or when.
I do agree with the counseling and I would also talk to a firman and ask him for fire safety plans and what to do in case will help.

Re: DO YOU LADIES
I have a HUGE fear of fire and do think about my escape routes each night. But, I have gotton over them. I make sure that the smoke detectors are working, the oven, or any other appliances are off, no candles lit, and that I can easily get out of the house.
I feel your pain. Peerhaps you can check your house before you go to bed. This may help.

Re: DO YOU LADIES
Like Allure, I used to have fears about fires when I went to sleep. I would wake up in the middle of the night, thinking I smelled smoke, then open my eyes, see the room fuzzy, and PANIC! Once my eyes adjusted, the room was clearer and I no longer smelled smoke. Then it would take me about an hour to calm down and go back to sleep. I was in two minor fires that occured while I was sleeping (once in my college dorm on the floor above me, and another when the apartment diagonally across from me caught on fire). I used to keep a pair of shoes by the door just in case. Luckily, after about 5-6 years of this, they stopped. Allure, I agree that maybe counseling will help because you cannot continue with these fears - they're too disruptive.
