Do you ladies think it's rude..

Original post by DananTodd

To make guests travel from westchester a little over an hour for your reception? Just toying with the idea of checking out some places, that are over an hour from me...Westchester county is ridiculously overpriced!

Please be honest!

My RH was about an hour away from the ceremony location AND the ceremony was at 2:30 but the reception didn't start until 7:00 PM. I got all sorts of questions about what people were going to do with all that time, and comments about my wedding being a Sunday night ending at midnight all the way out east .

It is true what they say . . . people that want to be there will make the effort!

it is your wedding and you should do what makes you happy! i wouldnt think it was rude at all!

However, just to prepare you - i am in Queens and my wedding is at JT (MAYBE a half hour drive??? not even) and a few people have already told me that they wouldnt be coming mostly older people though so just be prepared!!

W are having guests come in from NY and we live in NJ (or will be by the wedding) but it was just easier for us because we are the ones that really need the convenience as far as monetary expenses and dragging around a BP. Some people complained of course but our response was a smile and 'It's just Jersey, not Alaska!'

People will ALWAYS find reason to complain. I TOTALLY hear you and understand. You can always say what we told out LI relatives; 'We travelled from NJ to NJ for your christenings, baby showers, weddings.....'

The one thing to keep in mind is that if people dont like to travel (older relatives have this issue a lot as does my MIL-she is afraid of driving on highways) then you might get less people which could leave you with issues meeting your minimums. Just keep it in mind when creating your list.

If you need some good places that are also well prices in Westchester, I think I still have the lists. Auntuns of Westchester was reasonable.

Most of FHs family is from Westchester and Canada.

The Canadians will obviously be spending a few days here, but those from Westchester are just coming for the night and Ive heard no complaints.

We also went to FHs cousins wedding in Westchester. FH was in the party so we went to RD and fittings there too. We never complained.

I have family coming from all over the country. FIL's complained about their family having to drive to Hauppauge from the Far Rockaways!!!

I wouldn't worry about it those who want to be there for you will be there

80 of our guests are coming from out of town. Way more than an hour. You do what's right for you. Don't worry.

I live in Brooklyn and the vast majority of weddings I have gone to have been in LI or Westchester. I have even travelled upstate for weddings. I drove down to Virginia once! I am inviting people from all over the US, Chile and Ireland! I do not thnik it is rude to have YOUR wedding where YOU want it. Go for any venue you want...it is your day!
