Do you need to be preapproved before looking?

Original post by dandj

We are planning to start looking for coop next month. Do I need to be preapproved before we start? I'm envisioning looking being a long process...

How do you even begin to get preapproved?

You definitely do not need it - we didn't have it and had no clue even anything about the buying process when we started looking. It didn't stop any agent from showing us anything. I guess it could help some buyers think you were serious.

We're starting to look for a house on Sunday, and we aren't pre-approved.

if you don't have it - you should really look into what you can afford before you look...
