Do you need to have a rehearsal dinner?

FH and I are wondering if we really need a rehearsal dinner, as we are getting married at the RH and there won't be any rehearsal the night before...

We are basically paying for the wedding ourselves, and can't really afford anything nice, so we thought is it better to do nothing that do something cheesy?

Who gets invited to the RD? Immediate family and the BP, but do you have to invite OOT guests? That will get expensive very quickly.

Is anyone else NOT doing a rehearsal dinner?

Instead of doing the 'formal' rehearsal dinner. I was thinking about doing a BBQ at probably my parents house. We both love BBQ food and family gatherings so it kind of works out great. Our wedding is on a Sunday so it will also give OOT'ers something to do on Saturday.
