do you need to tip for a hair or makeup trial

I am going to start going for trials and I wasn't sure if tipping is necessary.

I did - but I tipped based on what the price of the trial was. I'll be tipping more the day of my wedding.

I did about 20% the trial price each time.

It's not necessary if the person owns their own business...tipping was invented to help people cover the overhead of having to rent space from someone else...or if you go to a dept store (like the MAC counter where they have you buy a certain amount of stuff and they make commission)...it's up to you though. Trials can get expensive and especially if you aren't happy with the results, don't feel pressure to tip if you aren't comfortable with the level of service...
