Do you plan to pay for your children's wedding? The whole thing? A set contribution? Will your answer depend on whether you have a son or a daughter? Will you expect to have a say in their decisions?
just curious

I don't have any children yet.... and no I will not be paying for the whole thing...but I do plan on helping out like my parents have. I think it's important for them to pay and for us to help out as well.

Re: Do you plan to pay for your children's wedding?
DH and I would like to make a financial contribution for our children's wedding but not pay for all of it. The amount would be the same regardless of gender. DH and I paid for our own and while we want to help out our future kids, right now we feel strongly that this is an expense the kids should bear the majority of.

we will give each child the same amount of money. that's what my parents did for my brother and me. they will also have to pay for the wedding.

The whole thing? NO!!! I would help out of course, but I think a couple contributing to their own wedding is a good way for them to see how they will handle their finances together. If they werent able to contribute to their own wedding then I would ask how they expect to rent/buy a place after and pay bills, so would depend on their situation.

if i have the ability to pay it, i would (though i doubt that will happen) though i def will be contributing to it, and would do the same for a girl as a boy

I probably will help my daughter as much as I can. My parents did not help at all with our wedding, and while it felt good at the end of the wedding, knowing the DH and I paid for the whole thing ourselves, it definitely would have been a big stress reliever having help.

I will pay for my girls' weddings like my parents are for me and did for my sis. My parents didn't have any boys, but for a boy I will give them money in the amount that I paid for the girls' day.

doing the same my parents did - not paying for a thing. This way they get the wedding they want just like we did with in a set budget that they set.

no, i'm definitely not paying for my children's wedding. I can't handle people who just have things GIVEN to them. And that's not how FH & i want to raise our future children. It's like allowance - i don't think it should be given to children/teens unless they do some work to earn it (simple things, like loading dishwasher, sweeping floor, raking leaves, etc). So for a wedding i feel no different. If we can afford it, I DEFINITELY feel that parents (esp of the Bride) should help out. I want my daughters to have the wedding they've dreamt of, so i hope that when the time comes we can give them a very generous 'gift'. But we would certainly not just pay for entire thing. Yeah right.

NO. I plan to pay for college, which is way more important than a fancy wedding and more than my parents could afford to do for us.
dh and i paid for our entire wedding and both our parents gave very nice gifts and contributed in other ways (bought the dress, shower, etc.). This enabled us to be the ones who had the say. That's my plan as well since I have no plan on trying to dictate to my kid what kind of wedding to have.

Re: Do you plan to pay for your children's wedding?
My parents are paying for our wedding, but are in no way dictating what kind of wedding we should have. The say is completely ours.. and they would have it no other way. And I wouldn't choose a wedding over college either. I plan on paying for my child's education and to me, a wedding and education are unrelated. In situations that a family could only choose one, I would say pay for the education...

Re: Do you plan to pay for your children's wedding?
im not sure - we got no help and while i wish we didnt have to shell out all this money ourselves i think that on the wedding day we are going to feel amazing - to see all of our hardwork come together - knowing that we have nobody to thank but ourselves - i think that its going to be awesome - and i honestly dont think it would be as great of a feeling if someone else paid for it....there is something about knowing you did it on your own that makes it more yours....so i dont know....im hoping we are in the financial position to at least help them with either their dress or tux but if our kids are anything like us they will want us to stay out of it

Re: Do you plan to pay for your children's wedding?
My parents had a set amount for each of us and if we decided we wanted a less expensive wedding like going to Jamaica and getting married on the beach, then we would get the rest for whatever we wanted. I plan to help in the same way. It all depends on colleges and our financial situation though. I love crafts so I'll definitely try to talk them into DIY! We also dont' plan on staying here until our children our grown up and weddings are entirely different things in different states.

Paying for the whole thing, absolutely not. But we would absolutely contribute as much as we could. I don't really think that parents are obligated these days but it's always nice to give. Especially when it's their own daughter. My parents have given me nothing for my wedding and it hurt my feelings alot.

If I can afford to pay for it, I will. Chances are I wont be able to, but I will definitely contribute.
I didn't expect my mom to pay for anything, and she wound up paying for my dress and some little things so that was nice.
