on the response envelopes? Is it too much to ask people to put a stamp on it themselves?

YES - I would anyway.
I don't know if I would be upset if I got an invitation without it, but I definitely would put it on

I would say yes. I did. If I reecived an invitation, I would expect to see a stamp on the RSVP envelope.

Re: Do you really have to put stamps...
I suppose you don't HAVE to stamp it - it isn't like the wedding police will come to your house and cite you for unlawful use of an invitation or anything.
But considering the fact that I have a bunch of numbnuts who couldn't manage dropping a postage paid envelope in the mail to reply... I would say your chances of receiving responses will be GREATLY reduced if you give your invitees the additional step and responsibility of seeking out postage.

I think it's a good idea. I figure that it increases your chances of getting all of your response cards back as quickly as possible. Just be careful if you are mailing your invites out soon because the price of stamps is going up to 41 cents in May.

Re: Do you really have to put stamps...
I did. I figured that a lot of people wouldn't have a free stamp, that it would get put aside until they paid bills or got around to buying stamps--the point is, I want them back ASAP, and I think putting a stamp on there makes it a LOT more likely. Not only will you get them back more quickly, you'll get more of them, because people will put them aside 'until I find a stamp' and then forget about them until someone calls to ask if they're coming. Or is that only my relatives?

i have to agree. Also if Its so much trouble to get your guests to drop a pre-stamped, pre-addressed darn envelope in a mailbox, you want to rely on them to stamp them too? That is asking wayyyyyyyy too much!

I think it has always been optional - but since the majority of people do it, it's viewed as the thing to do.

Yes, it's a courtesy, as well as the fact that many guests fail to RSVP anyways - so you want the stamp there for when you call to remind them and they hastily put it in the mail and then forget to check a box.

Ehhh - I disagree. Around here, I don't think it's ever been optional. I'm sure there are people who don't do it, but I think it's pretty rude (and looks really cheap) not to put stamps on the return envelopes.
Besides that, so many guests can't even manage to drop the pre-stamped envelope in the mail. I can't imagine the response nightmare you'd have if there were no stamps on the return envelopes.

i think it's customary to put stamps on for the guests. can they do it themselves? yes, but it's kinda tacky. plus, it'll be another excuse for them to delay their response.

Re: Do you really have to put stamps...
people have a hard enough time returning those things with stamps on them... if you dont put stamps on your rate of return would most likely drop significantlly!

I have postcards too but I am so paranoid there will be people who won't 'get it'- they'll either put the postcard in another envelope, or send the whole damn sheet (Reception and response card are on a preforated card). Part of me wonders if I shoulda printed out directions for the response card!
