Do you really need 2 Photographers?

What are your thoughts on this? Obviously it's much more expensive, but is it really necessary?

I dont think it is necessary, but it is nice to have, because one can shoot candids or black and whites etc...

It's nice, but IMO not necessary.

It's really nice to have a second photographer at the church. That way you get two angles. You have pictures of the groom up front and the bride in the back. While you're taking your vows one photographer takes pictures of you and the other one will take pictures of the reactions of your guests- it's a nice touch.

I agree with Crazed...it's a nice touch. We have two photographers for the reasons she stated. We want pictures of the same event but at different angles. I think it all comes down to personal preference.

i guess it depends on how big your wedding willl be - with around 250 guests.... i would like to have pics from all over the room!

Not necessary but recommended. You can get alot more things captured with a second photographer, and on your wedding day you don't want to miss a thing.

Re: Do you really need 2 Photographers?

Thanks for the advice. Here are my options: either one photographer for the whole day; two for the ceremony and one for the reception; or two for the whole day. Do you think the middle option would do the trick? How much better do you think the reception pics will be with two photographers? I'm having about 100 people.

Thanks again for all your help!

I love the two photographer idea. The best pictures are the pictures you don't know are being taken. In my photo and video package, i am getting two photographers and it was not expensive at all. I used duet wedding studio. Some other brides are using them also. It is only expensive if you go to the big name factory photography places.

I think that the option of 2 for the ceremony and 1 for the reception would be a good idea. I don't think that with 100 guests an extra photographer during the reception is necessary.

If I were you I'd have 2 photographers for the ceremony, 1 for the reception, plus single use cameras on the tables for guests to take candids, etc. Some of the best pictures come from table cameras - captures an element even the best photographers can't get, IMO.

I love the candids I see - It shows the way the wedding really was!!! If anything at the wedding is worth the extra - it's the photos you'll have to show your grandkids!

I originally wanted two, but my photographer told me that since my wedding was so small (75 people) it really was an unnecessarry expense. I trusted her and I must tell you having received all my proofs back, I don't regret it and am glad I took her advice!

I am having one doing color formal pics and one doing b&w photojournalistic shots.

I had 1 photographer and an assistant...thought that was PLENTY!!!!

We had 2 photographers (1 main, 1 candid & B&W) and 1 assistant. I'm very glad we had the 2 photographers, because both sets of pictures are beautiful for different reasons!
It's not absolutely necessary, but very nice to have if you can swing it

We are having 2 photographers, one for traditional and one for photojournalisim. I like that both photographers have their specialty, and we will get to see the day through two different lenses. Also like the idea that we have a backup, in case one misses a shot, the other one will (hopefully) get it.

Do you need 2? Of course, you don't need 2. But will you get totally different, unique photos and capture more moments of your wedding- YES. I had 3 photographers (very long story, but normally you get 2 with Mark Kauffman anyway) and my photos captured sooo many moments- things I didn't even see happening.
For instance, while we were taking some of our family photos the other photographer was taking candids of people waiting, talking, interacting. Also, I was able to get many different types of film used and different angles of the same shot. It made a big difference.
Without two photographers I would not have photos like this
Just to show you a few. Other things were going on with the 'main' photographer when these were taken.
You can also ask SonicStef this same question. She also had 2 photographers.

we are actually having two - we got a great deal, but the one thing i had never considered before was that 2 photographers can compliment each other....ie - how many girls don't have a pic of the back of their dress as they go down the aisle (b/c photg is usually in front taking pic..), etc....we are hoping to get everything on film, i am a huge picture person so luckily we are able to do it w/o breaking our budget (if you want fm me and i will tell you who we are using and the prices, etc.!)

but you don't need 2 of them....one good one is fine!

I had a guest list of 200 and had one - but by chance a friend of mine also dabbles in photography and shot our wedding without us even knowing. So we in essence had two. I'm happy with that combo cause I got some great shots of our friends that our main photographer didn't get. it was a nice balance.
