Do you really need a DJ AND an MC??

Do you really need a DJ AND an MC??

Can a DJ do as good a job by himself or would it really be better to have an MC as well so the DJ can concentrate on the music? Are you having one or both and why?

i think a DJ can do a good job on his own--plenty of ppl do it.

for us, personally, we wanted a separate person. only cause we wanted a bi-lingual DJ to do the introductions, and such...and the MC will be basically saying everything twice in 2 different languages, and we didn't want to worry about them handling it as well as the music at the same time.

but there are TONS of girls who don't get a DJ and MC!

If you have an excellent DJ then, yes, I think he can do the job alone. They are two totally separate jobs and I think it could be difficult to find someone who can do them both well. We're getting both a DJ and an MC.

Good topic. I have the same question. I guess it all depends how much you're having done.

I just want the introductions, first dance, father/daughter, mother/son, MOH & best man toasts, annoucements about the food being served, and cake cutting. And maybe some little thing to give away the centerpieces. Probably don't need an MC, huh?

Thats the only thing we wanted as far as announcements and we went with the no MC route....Our DJ is capeable of making the announcements and playing the music.

I went to a party where the DJ did both and you can tell..he was lacking in the music area..

I want my DJ to do his job..music.. the MC to do the talking lol plus a lot of the MC's really get the crowd hyped up!

We are just havng a DJ only, he will announce everything that we want, he has an awesome computerized DJ system so no need to worry about the music lacking at all, hope this helps!!!

We are only doing a DJ, the only reason I think you should get an MC is if you think that they will get your guests on the dance floor. Me, if I had an MC I can guarantee you hed be going to the hospital if he attempted to get my dad up

We're planning on having both. I think an MC is also a person that can keep a party going at the stages when it needs a little pick me up, etc, so we're planning on both. JMO! HTH!

Thanks everyone for your responses - I'm still torn b/c I feel like the MC might be standing around doing nothing all night except the announcements and I don't want him constantly talking and yelling into the mic and I don't want any giveaways. My group shouldn't need too much encouragement to dance after cocktail hour!!

I'm sure it would be just fine with just a DJ. I just love having an MC... too.

I personally would have two people....

i went to a wedding where the DJ was the MC and he was running back and forth with the mic and the music was left unattended.... wasn't good!!

JMHO

But I will say so DJs MIGht be able to do it...
