Will a lot of vendors be booked? I'm a little nervous because at present FH is unemployed (victim of the many layoffs), and so we can't really come up a lot of deposits right now. Do you think we should think of a later date?
His parents have offered money for our wedding, maybe we can ask for some of it now to make deposits? I'm just not sure what to do!

I think if you can be flexible on the actual date, go for it. Good luck!!
I think you'll be okay. Just get the RH booked soon.

Certainly not! I just booked my RH in January and will be booking my photos by the end of the week. I highly recommend to book NOW! You may also have to be flexible with the date at certain RH.

Re: Do you think it's too late?
It's not too late at all. It might scare you seeing girls on here that have all their vendors booked, but dont worry. I'm July 2010 and have most of my vendors booked...but I've also been engaged for a year, so we've had quite awhile to plan.
I agree with everyone else- if you're worried about saving money look into an off-peak month. July is cheaper than June and only a month difference. Good luck!

I booked my RH in January for a May 2010 wedding.. so if you look now you should still be OK.. (hopefully.. crossing my fingers!!)

I agree with the other girls It is not too late to start planning a wedding but if money is an issue then you should look at off peak months. June is one of the most expensive since it is high peak. But I would book things ASAP if you have an idea of things you want
Good Luck

Personally I would wait especially if he was a victum of being laid off. Alot of companies want to get paid most of the money upfront. but if you want to book now you should do it soon because places do get booked really fast but like the other girls say you should get the rh first.

Re: Do you think it's too late?
Just an update-
I think we are going forward! We're meeting with the hall next week.
We decided to give up the Saturday night in a prime month and go for either a sunday or off season. This will save a lot of money! The money FH's parents already promised to give us would basically pay for the whole RH on an off day/season. What a difference!
We also spoke with his parents and they did agree to loan us the rest of the money in case we can't come up with the rest and pay it back over time.
My sister and BIL are paying for flowers, and I just won a free dress from David's Bridal, so it seems much more doable now!
I also realized we can get away with one limo since I live literally a block and a half from the church, so it'll be very easy for the limo to get the guys in LI and drop them off and then come for the girls. I'm sure I can find other ways to save money with your help, girls!

I'd start now but I just booked my RH less than a month ago, and the church this past week, and haven't booked anything else yet. You are totally fine.

If you think your ready and both of you agree on doing it this June. Then you really need to start booking asap so you could atleast get those vendors you want.

Re: Do you think it's too late?
Yes, prices for june are a lot more expensive. You can save money by going for a earlier month wedding (i.e. March)
If you have your heart set on a June wedding, and you are really stressing over the $ issue, can you postpone it until June 2011? You can still plan now, go a little slower at booking, majority of the vendors you want would still be open and you have an extra year to save. Booking now will give you the same prices as a 2010 wedding.
If you really want the June 2010 wedding It's not too late to start, but you will probably have to be very flexible when it comes to choosing your vendors. I would imagine many of the 'popular' ones would be close to booked by now. See if any of the vendors who still have your deposit are available that day. If so, can you get away with out leaving a 2nd deposit on top of the money they all ready have from before?

Re: Do you think it's too late?
you will have to act fast!! I was laid off last october .... it was then we decided to book for an off season wedding. We are paying almost $100 less per person than other people who are getting married at our RH in June WITH THE SAME MENU!! ..
Just food for thought!

Re: Do you think it's too late?
I'd book pretty soon for a June wedding.. never hurts to look at places even if you are going to have a later date
