Some people at work noticed that there was an eye watching their inter-office e-mails.Do you think they can see where we look on the web?

Is it only when you see the eyeball or even when you don't?

they know whether you see eyeballs or not if they use such software

They can check at any time what you are doing on the internet. At my job they can block you out of going to certain web sites. TG LIW as not been blocked. Then I would feel completely out of the loop.

Re: Do you think our jobs can see if we are on LIW?
They definitely can if they go on your PC and look around or if they have firewall or tracking software in place on the server.
I am an IT Manager and never check the logs to see who is on and what they are logged into (for the most part we have it set to only see the IP address of what site people are at) or how long they are on...I don't have time for that and rather not know what people are looking at or doing. We aren't too small but not big at all - about 150 users or so.....The only time we would really check would be if we had a reason or a request has come in.
I have no clue what you mean about the eyeball though....I have this one program that installs a ear in the taskbar called Listener and someone told a user that it is so the COO (who everyone is scared of) can hear/know what you are doing on your PC at all times (jokingly) and they believe him. It does no such thing.

Re: Do you think our jobs can see if we are on LIW?
Some people in my office noticed that there was an eyeball looking around in their emails so they know that someone was watching. I haven't seen it in mine but I know that the company is doing a lot of layoffs and is probably looking for any reason to let people go.
Re: Do you think our jobs can see if we are on LIW?
Yes they can tell...anyone can tell what site you are on anywhere...but do they want to is the bigger question...
DH says that emails are more read than sites you go to...but if someone is out to get someone...then who knows...it depends on your IT person...be very nice to them...they'll cover for you

I personally don't see anything wrong with it as long as the work is getting done. Should we just stare at the walls in between phone calls?

Re: Do you think our jobs can see if we are on LIW?
I know my company has the ability to monitor internet usage, I dont think they care to go to the trouble for the most part. Although we cannot access AOL through explorer anymore.
I sort of see both sides of it in terms of restricting usage. I agree there's no point in staring at walls.
But for me personally, I am much more productive over all when the internet is down in my office. There's always something I could or should be doing (filing, preparing reports in advance, streamlining some procedure, etc).
In fact, I almost want to ask them to ban a couple of sites I frequent so I wont be online so much but then I am afraid they will check to see how much time I spent online....LOL.

Re: Do you think our jobs can see if we are on LIW?
My company is huge so I don't think they're always watching, but I'm friends with a few IT guys and know they have access to it all.
Question for anyone: Can anyone tell me how to delete a URL from the address space? You know when the top 15-20 sites get stored in memory? How can you delete them? I don't want others to come onto my computer to see where I've been recently

If you have internet explorer, click on 'Tools' and then 'Internet Options'...then click 'Clear History'. This will get rid of the url's in the address bar that save themselves!

Re: Do you think our jobs can see if we are on LIW?
Teri, I know there is a way, but I don't know how to do it. What I usually do, is for sites that I don't want people to know that I've been on, I go to google and search www.liweddings.com. On my internet explorer, the only sites that stay in the pull down tab are ones that I have typed in.

Re: Do you think our jobs can see if we are on LIW?
Thanks Misty! I'll try that tomorrow!
Someday - I thought of that, but only last week! Too bad I've been surfing the web for quite some time.
To be honest though, I'm usually too busy at work to read much. If anything, I just keep LIW minimized and catch up when I can....but then IT must think I'm actually online ALL Day!
