I haven't seen or spoken to my godfather in about.... geez i'll say 15 years. We still exchange christmas cards and I did speak to him on the phone 7 years ago. Since then i've heard from my aunt that he's moved down to North Carolina with his wife. I always feel really akward calling anyone after such a length of time. I just finished writting him a letter updating him on the past 10 years or so and the fact that i'm engaged. I don't have his # since he moved but i'm 99% sure my Aunt has it. Do you think it's bad that i'm sending the letter in the Christmas card instead of calling?? Btw, I do plan on inviting him to the wedding.

No, I'd defintely send the letter first, at least to test the waters. A phone call can be awkward. Send the letter

i dont think its bad but i think it would be better if you just called,,, geez how long is a letter with a 10 year update lol didnt your hand cramp up??? PLUS you will be seeing him at the wedding so all the more reason to try to make the situation less awkward

Re: Do you think this is bad?
Personally, I think it's fine........but it's more than I'd do for my godfather. I hadn't seen him in over 10 years either, until my Grandmother passed away. At her funeral, he introduced me to people as 'Donny's (my dad) daughter.' That was my line. I was so annoyed at that, so I don't really make an attempt anymore. He was at my e-party, and will also be at my wedding, but I honestly couldn't care less.
I guess it's better than my godmother though........I saw her at my uncle's funeral last year for the first time since my baptism. She didn't even know who I was

I think the letter should be fine. Include your number in the letter so he can call you if he wants!

Re: Do you think this is bad?
The thing that kinda bothers me to is that he hasn't really contacted me either since my dad passed away. (except for 1 bday party of his we went to about a year after my dad passed). Although Laura, he did call when the whole thing with my sister was going on.
It's def a two way street but someone has to start. I guess i'll send the letter and follow it up with a phone call in a week or so after the holidays.

ITA! my fathers mother, who I haven't spoken to since I was about 6... tried to call me about 7 years ago, it just threw me off... she used to relay messages through my aunt and cousins... she then wrote me a letter, and while I read the letter I didn't reconnect. There's a reason I don't speak with her. but I think that the letter was a better option then the phone call..
at least in your case, there's no hostility, in my case there was a BIG falling out.

I don't speak to my godfather or godmother regularly either. I see them at family get together's which is like once every five years. I was close with him when I was little though. He alos said he was coming to my engagement party and then never showed up lol. I don't send out Christmas cards so I can't relate there. I would just send the card. I don't think you have to call first.
