Now FH tells me a few weeks ago that his mother went out and bought all of the bridesmaids jewelry to wear on the day of the wedding, to match the dresses. He then informs me that the groom's sister doesn't want to wear it.
I thought it was extremely rude for her to say that and I figured we would just go along with it anyways. Well I receive a message on my phone today from one of the other bridesmaids stating that the rest of them came into agreement that they would all like to wear the jewelry the day before the wedding at the rehearsal dinner, so that way they can 'show appreciation' for the gift that FH's mother got each of us. They do not want to wear it the day of the wedding.
Now tell me, is that not extremely rude? This nice woman went out of her way to buy jewelry to match the bridesmaid dresses and now NONE of the bridesmaids plan on wearing it the day of the wedding?? Instead they would rather 'show' their appreciation the day before??
Am I the only one that thinks this is totally wrong???

Although I agree that they are not showing appreciation, it may have been a bit out of place to go ahead and take the liberty of buying jewelry for the girls to wear. It may not be the style they were going for so if the mother wanted to purchase the jewelry she may have first thought to first, ask the bride and then take her to the store to pick it out. it is nice of the girls to wear it to the rehearsal dinner. However it is only my opinion.

I think they need to discuss this w/ the bride. It is very sweet of the mom to go out a buy the jewlery but at the same time I feel that the girls need to be in some sort of agreement especially if they all agree but mom needs to be aware that they are not wearing the jewlery and I think that this needs to told to her by the bride. Her mom should not be surprised by this on the day of the wedding.

Oh well this story gets a little better.... I just got off the phone with FH's sister ( bride) because she wanted to see if the other girls got in touch with me yet. Two of the bridesmaidds call her today to tell her that they dont want to wear the necklace to the wedding, but they will wear it to the rehearsal dinner AND THEN they made the bride call her mother and explain that the bridesmaids did not want to wear the necklaces.
This has been the easiest bridal party to be in... the bride has not asked one thing of us, except for this and this is how they treat her...

Ok, I change my opinion. The Bride needs to put her foot down. If she has let them do what they want and has not asked much of them, the least they can do is compromise. I have to side w/ the bride on this one. I am letting my girls do whatever they want. I'm not pickie but if I ask one thing I hope that we can come to some sort of agreement. Good Luck

Wow... that stinks that the bride had to tell her mother that the other bridesmaids don't want to wear the necklaces. Was the bride ok with her mother buying jewelry in the first place? I am just wondering.

Unless the jewlery is extremely tacky, I would wear it out of consideration for the mother. You were asked to be in a wedding and you deal with the good and bad-otherwise you shouldn't have said yes. If the girls got to choose their dresses-then they should at least wear the jewlery. Maybe suggest they wear it for half the time-get pics at the wedding with and without the jewlery.

Re: Do you think this is wrong??
I've been a bm in at least 6 weddings and will admit that I did not like either the choice of dress, color or jewelry BUT part of being a bm is wearing the dress, color & jewelry that has been picked out/given to you. It is great when a bride asks for an opinion but not always necessary. I have worn all the dresses and jewelry proudly - no one was looking at me anyway. It is one day...I don't see a problem with wearing something you normally wouldn't wear to make someone else happy especially if you are in a bridal party. I tend to breakout from fake jewelry so in the past I've worn it until after walking into the reception and then I take it off...If it makes the other bms happy, they can do that.

I think it is rude, but at least they are going to wear it the night before. I hope that this gesture will spare FMIL feelings.

I think thats really rude! Both times I was a bridesmaid I was given jewelry to wear that I didn't like but both times I wore the jewelry and thanked the bride.

Re: Do you think this is wrong??
I think they are wrong. This day is about the bride and not about them. I think out of consideration for the bride and the MOB they should wear it without question. I am sure the MOB showed the bride prior to handing out the gifts and the bride approved. This is a situation the bride does not need to deal with right now...there are so many other things that require her attention with the upcoming wedding.

RUDE! THere isnt really anything else to say about it! My personal opinion as I am sure there will be others who agree, I am being pretty flexible with colors and dresses (I want my girls to be happy and comfortable) but if my mother went out of her way you better darn well wear it!

Jewelry is a very personal thing. I think that her mother should not have gone out and done that, however, now that it's done, they should all s u c k it up. What's done is done.
Does the bride like the jewelry?
I think they should have discussed this with the bride before making such a decision.

awww this is sad - my opinion is if the bride hasnt asked much of the girls then everyone should suck it up and wear the jewelry to make the bride happy on her wedding day...even though this is a touchy situation - the mother was thoughtful & generous to buy these gifts... Good Luck I hope this all works out with a happy ending!

Re: Do you think this is wrong??
If the bride is ok with the jewelry and would like the girls to wear it, then yes they should... it really should not make much difference at this point what jewelry they wear... in my friends wedding, the only request i kindly told her if ou dont want me to just say no was to wear an aquamarine bracelet FH gave me since it was special to me and FH was in iraq at this time... (her dresses were periwinkel so it matched anyway)... if she told me i'd rather you not, i would have been fine with it... i always keep something on me from him, so i would have just put it on my ankel or in my purse... but it is pretty much tradition these days to get the girls matching jewelry... i think they should just wear it and be happy for their bride, it is not like it is something hurting any of their pockets since it is a gift.. unless they have allergies, which comon, i doubt they all have the allergy!

After hearing the whole story, yes, it's wrong, rude and inconsiderate. I think the bride needs to have a talk with her BMs. They are not asking some ridiculous request, and I think from what you've wrote, the bride has been very easy going through the whole process, they should think of her too and not just her mom!

It seems to me like these girls are petty, it is not gonna kill them to wear the damn jewelry, they should just get over it! XOXOXO Kitty

Re: Do you think this is wrong??
Had to re-read this one. It does seem rude of them not to wear the jewelry. This wedding isnt about them its about the bride. It seems that the groom sister has a problem and went and did some 'talking' to the other BM's that's why now none of them want to wear it to the wedding. Personally I'd tell them they don't have a choice. That's just me though. The Bride should talk to the Grooms sister and set her straight. Where is her MOH to help tackle this one?
