Do you think what you weigh has any affect on getting PG?

Do you think what you weigh has any affect on getting PG?

One of my friends thinks I'm too skinny (along with just about everyone else ) and she thinks that I need to gain weight and that'll help me get PG.

Meanwhile, I'm 5'7' and 125 lbs. That's not skinny if you ask me! I just look thin because I have a slim build (narrow shoulders and hips, long arms and legs). I'm pretty fit too so I don't have much visible fat.
I also just had a checkup with my gyno and he said NOTHING about my weight being an issue. So I guess this whole post is really just a big vent

But has anybody ever told you that your weight might affect you getting PG, whether they thought you needed to gain or lose weight?

I don't think weight has anything to do with it in your case...i guess if you are REALLY heavy or REALLY skinny it may, but not in your case....(not that i don't think you are thin...just not too thin for ttc...)

I know being too heavy can be a problem (though I know of at least one very heavy woman who got pg).

You're not too skinny, I don't think. I think that women who are anorexic or borderline probably have problems because you need a little meat on your bones to ovulate/menstruate.

If your Dr. doesn't see a problem then I would not even worry about it. You are healthy, and fit, you take care of yourself, which is obvious from other posts!
Women who are to skinny - sometimes lose their period - which could be a problem. Otherwise you have nothing to worry about!

I'm just getting so sick of people telling me I'm too skinny!!! I'm like, LISTEN, I'm in good shape that's all! Get off my back!
And then to imply that I'm not getting PG because I'm too skinny
She didn't mean any harm, it's just that comments like that annoy me....grrr.....
And my bodyfat isn't so low that I don't get a period - I'm not THAT fanatical about fitness!

I had dropped a bunch of weight over the summer and for the wedding. I had a very low body fat and they told me i would be fine.

I think it can affect someone who is the extreme but you seem fine for your height.
I think people who tell you that are jealous.

No, it usually works in the reverse...

I'm 5'7' and I was 128 lbs before I got pregnant. I think you will be fine at the weight you are right now.

Thanks everyone
So if any of you ever meet me, do NOT tell me that I need to eat more unless you want to see me lose it!

i agree. for people who are heavily overweight or severely underweight, maybe. anorexia can def. hinder, as well, especially if the disease has stunted a woman's period. but you sound fine. i'm the same and i hear similar stuff...crock o' bs in my opinion. if you weighed 90 lbs at your height, then i'd be concerned.

I would have to say no. I'm 5'6 and weighed about 115 pre pregnancy and have since gained 33lbs in 33weeks. My doc told me he wanted to see about a 40lb gain in 40 weeks atleast and has been very happy with my gain.

As long as your periods are regular and you are healthy, being on the low side of the scale doesn't make that much of a difference. It is hard though if you get horrific morning sickness trying to hold on to your weight though.

I have a friend who is very slight and had a hard time because she didn't gain enough while pregnant and she had a hard time carrying full term as well as walking because she only gained baby weight and no where else. For me my gain has been in my breasts, belly and thighs which is helping me since my body is carrying the weight well.

I have been enjoying the weight gain in all honesty because I have trouble gaining weight. I am just a slight person and enjoy working out occassionally. Hopefully losing it once the baby arrives won't be that tough but if it is it wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing because like you for YEARS I get crap about my weight and Dh is enjoying the gain in certain areas..

My sister was told she had to gain weight if she want's to get PG. She is 5' and under 100 pounds. And a women at work has to lose a lot of weight before she can get PG. I feel so bad for her. She goes to the gym everyday and eats nothing now

If your dr. says your fine, your fine

Sounds to me that your friend is jealous of your 'skinniness'. As long as you are healthy, no matter if you weigh 100lbs or 180lbs, you're fine. Look at Sarah Jessica Parker! She's 98lbs soaking wet, and she had a healthy boy a couple of years ago! God bless hers, and your good genes!

Yeah, my friend has said in the past that she wishes she had my body. I don't know why anybody would want to look like a bean pole with muscles!
She's battled weight issues all her life......although she doesn't seem to realize that her body is totally normal. She weighs 150 lbs which on her frame is fine.

No, I've been thin my whole life and had no problems getting pregnant..........I think the only way being too thin could affect it is if there was some kind of problem involved or unhealthy dieting...and your weight sounds perfect

I too was 5.6 and 115 lbs pre pregnancy. Alot of people thought that I was way too skinny. I had a really hard time putting on weight. I would eat everything under the sun, I just have a really fast metabolism. I though I would have a problem with pregnancy and gaining but so far my problem is the opposite Im gaining like crazy. But its fine for me and we had no problems getting preggo either.

I hate when people call me skinny or make comments about my weight. I know that Im thin yet people feel the need to point it out with every chance they get. I beleive that they think its a compliment but after a lifetime of hearing it -it starts to really get to you. Im very self consious about being to thin and Im very happy that Ive been gaining weight with my pregnancy. At almost 30 weeks I have gained about 32 lbs so far.

Anniegirl & antoinette, people are evil. Some might make it seem like they're complimenting you, but they're not! I've always thought that it was sad that some try to poison the minds of healthy thin girls, just to tap into their insecurities, and make themselves feel better. SO WHAT if a girl has been 'too skinny' all of her life? As long as she's healthy, don't hate because you wear each french fry you eat on your thighs & stomach!!

I don't really let it bother me that much anymore. It IS annoying but I try to let it roll of my back. But I seriously am thinking about starting a clothing line for thin women who aren't petite (short). I was just looking for golf clothes this weekend and couldn't find anything smaller than a size 4!!!! I'm a 0
I even searched online at golf clothing websites and found it very hard to find smaller sizes. It's like we're being punished for being thin and tall!
At least when I get preggo I shouldn't have a problem finding clothes that fit

Re: Do you think what you weigh has any affect on getting PG?

It definetly should not be a problem at your height and age. I am 5'8 and 135 and people always say i look skinner then i am because i have long legs and arms. However back in my college days i went down to 110 which was way unhealthy for me (i use to be a big time runner) and I lost my period for months. I had to go to my gyno who prescribed me something that quickly brought my period back but then i had to go to a nutritionist to learn how to eat enough for the amount of running i did and that helped me put on some weight. That is probably what you might of heard about weight and the issues with getting pregnant and staying pregnant.

You sound like you are at a very healthy weight. Don't let anyone bring you down.

Good luck.
