I think that I can- at least 80% of the time. Not down to the exact number, but I can usually tell: 'under 21' 'early 20s' 'late 20s', etc...

Most people don't know with me! They are usually shocked when I tell them my age!

With some posters, yes. On the whole, not sure.

Me too! And sometimes whenI hear ages (esp. under 21) I am shocked. Not as shocked as when I hear 'dating under 1 year, engaged under 1 year'...for someone who dated for 9 years and was engaged for 4 of those...that's shocking. I'm like 'you can't possibly know someone that quickly'...but there are NO certainties in life, I guess.

I usually can't. But people are generally surprised when they hear how old I am.

Sometimes. And there have been a few occasions where I have been WAY off.

I am 35 and clearly ONE of the older current brides who writes with any great frequency here on LIW. I dated my FH for a year and a month before we got engaged and we will have only been engaged 10 months when we get married. As a person gets older and has been in the 'dating scene' longer, they tend to know how to sift through prospective suitors. In other words, they've seen more and know more of what they DON'T want in addition to what they DO want in a mate. My parents dated 6 weeks and were married 49 years. At the time, they were considered 'old' at 25 and 30 back in 1956. My sister dated her husband for 6 months and is still married after 15 years - they were 32 and 34. My brother, on the other hand knew his ex-wife for 6 years before they got married (met in college) and you can see how that turned out. (he is now remarried). So basically, the amount of time you've spent with that person BEFORE the ring is on the finger is irrelevant. What matters is if that person has experienced all they have wanted to experience in life before they commit themselves to a marriage.

I agree with you completely, as I wrote there are no certainties in life. My surprise stems from hearing short courtships and engagements from young 20 somethings...

It's hard for me to tell usually, but I'm horrible at judging ages, even when I'm looking at a person. As for people judging my age, I think a lot of people are surprised when they find out how young I am.

I kind of assume most people are mid to late 20s, which is what I am, and what is the average age of members on LIW (from polls on LIW and NWR at least). I am kind of surprised whenever anyone is much younger or older. But many of the older crew are young at heart, and many of the much younger crew are forced to be more mature and responsible than I was at 20 or 21 (I worked full time after college and everything, but didn't have a family to worry about).

I don't have a clue! What tips you off to someone's age?
