Do you think your choice of Hall affects your other vendors?

do you think when you say the hall you are getting married at it changes the vendors outlook on the sale?
meaning...if they know you picked an expensive hall they are less likely to cut you a deal or they willgive you a higher price rather than if you chose a hall lesss expensive?

thats an interesting concept actually! but im not so sure if vendors would do it bc it would be hard to get away with.... esp if you mention you're on LIW .... everyone compares packages with everyone else... all you'd have to say was 'so and so got this for the same day and time of yr, whys mine higher?'

I always wonder about this.....

true. i was thinking like maybe if its worth 3500 they will tell you 4000 and if you dont say a word they nailed you for 4000 but if you negotiate and get it down to 3500 they still win. whereas if you have a cheaper hall they might figure there's no way you'll pay 4K so they start lower

Definitely...we worked off of our RH's recommended vendor list and definitely feel like we might have been charged more. Vendors on your hall's rec. vendor list give a certain percentage of their proceeds to the hall...we talked most of them down but still....it's annoying to think that if you get married at a different RH you might get a better price. I guess you could have a friend call up after you meet with a vendor and ask them for prices to check...good advice for brides who haven't booked their vendors yet

i've never thought about it that way before, but i guess it could for some. it's unethical, but that doesn't necessarily stop people from doing it.

this is a very interesting thought of which until rite now I never thought about. I'm sure some may practice something that is rather unethical as this, and yet others are probably honest and get enough buisness without having to scam someone.

Never thought of that before. I could see some vendors doing that...and vendors like that can get away with it bc brides who dont have an option like LIW to compare prices wont know the difference. It really sad to think that some vendors try to get one over on you like that...

I could see some vendors doing that. I think this kind of goes for sales in general.

I was having a conversation about this with a co worker but it wasn't really wedding related. He said that although he has money you would be surprised the way sales people negotiate when they see you are just a 'simple looking person' . When you look like you are loaded or as in the case of this post, when you have a more expensive catering hall, vendors are less likely to bargain cause they feel you have the money. At least alot of them will but not all.

That is a very good question to bring up, because not a lot of people think about it much. It's sad how people can take advantage of you.

This is very true. I realized that and decided to go my own route. Most of the time you can always get a better price for an outside vendor for the same or even better quality. Defintely something for current and future brides to think about.

I was actually thinking this too. FH and I decided that our splurge would be a band-- he is a music guy and wanted someone really specific. We are booking a hall based on the dates the band we want is available. Other then the band we are on a budget. At first we were telling the hall that we have a band, and I think they were giving us a hire price.... now, we tell the halls that we are picking this date because its special to us. Seems to be working a little better this way.
