i have my first make-up trial tomorrow and I'm not sure what's customary. And if so, how much did you tip for just make-up? Thanks!!

For just makeup, I tipped 20 on a free trial, and did not tip on a very pricey trial where the fee went straight to the artist. For hair, I tipped 15, because it was at a salon. For hair and makeup, I tipped 20, but there was also a fee that went to the artist.

yeah its the same tip as usual when getting hair done which is about 15-20%.

My family has owned salons for years and my step father was the owner and hair dresser, owners of their own businesses usually do not get tipped since the cost for the serivce is entirely theirs.
If it is their own business, I don't feel it is necessary to tip, they are getting the entire fee that they charge.
Of course, its always a nice gesture to offer more but I think $200-$300 is paying enough to get my hair or makeup done.

My mom and I went to a makeup trial on Saturday and it was an independent person who was taking in all the money for herself, so I wasn't sure if we should tip or not. For 2 $35 trials, we gave her $80 total....so basically we tipped her $10. That actually comes out to about 15%.

Nope~ It was INSANELY expensive to begin with and I didn't like what I looked like AT ALL!

Oops, I didnt either but in my defense it was 180 bucks for my trial and it was the last of my cash!

yea my trial was 150... trials that expensive.. ugh no tip! esp bad ones like mine!
