The rule of thumb is that if you are working with an independent photographer who is not affiliated with a studio, you do not tip, otherwise, you do.

you do not tip the owner but for all others, you should.

We did not tip our photographer, we tipped the assistant. Our photographer owns the company.

We tipped our photographers several hundred each. They definitely earned it so we didnt mind giving it.

My father is a photographer and at one point did it on his own and another worked for a company!! he never gets tipped and it drives me crazy, people tip everyone else but no one is there as long as your photgrapher, and some people didnt even feed him, so hes there all day nothing to eat at all and no tip at the end of the night..

I go to a hair salon, and the owner of the salon happens to be the one who does my hair, just because she owns the salon doesnt mean i dont tip her...
