Do you wear shoes in the house?

Do you wear shoes in the house?

Growing up, we never wore shoes. DH and I don't either and my friends take their shoes off when they come in knowing that I hate shoes in the house.

The ILs, however, hardly ever take their shoes off. It is so annoying. I hate all the sand and wetness from the leftover snow getting all over my newly renovated house and my new rug in the den.

I've asked DH to say something but he never does- usually he forgets.

ETA- They never use coasters on my wooden coffee table even though they are sitting right there!! At least DH is better about putting them under their glasses. You'd think they'd get the hint.

dh and i kick off our shoes and put on our slippers. at least our feet are warm, but as i've gotten older, the idea of wearing shoes in public bathrooms and then our home kind of grosses me out. plus, when we have a baby and he/she starts crawling, i don't want our baby touching the carpet that our shoes have touched after stepping on g-d knows what! have a basket by the front door with some cheap slippers and ask them to put those on.

Nope, we take them off right by the door and they stay on a little carpeted area rug.

We always take ours off at the door. Our friends and family know we don't like shoes in the house. If they don't take them off, I don't ask them to. Most do though. There are the select few that don't. Oh well.

We take our shoes off at the front door and most people that come over usually volunteer to do it as soon as they see our shoes sitting in the foyer.

When I was growing up, the rule was no shoes in the house. They were put in a shoe rack by the door. I always thought it was a pain, until I moved into my own apartment and had to clean the floor myself. Keeping the shoes off really helps reduce the dirt I track in from outside.

DH & I take our shoes off at the door and put them on a little rug. Most people are great about taking their shoes off. My mother is the only one that ignores my requests. Dad has no problem with it.

We don't have carpeting except in the bedrooms right now so I take off my shoes in the hallway at the entrance to the bedrooms...

I'm thinking that we might institute this policy before the baby is born also... it's just so much cleaner and more sanitary.

Yes ... and I think it's kinda funny I'm the only one who said yes!

I wear shoes...and personally i can't stand it when i go to someones house and the TELL me to take mine off. Rugs are for walking on..with or without shoes! And vacumns are for cleaning up any dirt lol But whatever floats your boat lol

DH and I only take our shoes off immediately when we walk in if they are wet or snowy or muddy or something like that. We both mostly wear flip flop or slippers around the house unless we have company.. I would never expect someone to take their shoes off in my home. I can't imagine ever telling someone to take their shoes off or someone asking me to take mine off in their home. I kind of agree with robinella - to me a house is to be lived in and dirty floors happen....

This is exactly what we do.
I can't stand when the floor gets all gross..my family and dh's family are the same way..and I just tell whoever that comes in to take them off..kind of in a sarcastic way, so they get the point..

I leave mine on, unless I know I am home for the night. I like to have my feet protected. I have stepped on things and hurt my feet while going barefoot or in slippers. Shoes are much safer for me.

I hate being told to take off my shoes in someone else's house.

I would think people would rather clean up after the guests leave, rather than risk smelly feet when everyone is eating.

Re: Do you wear shoes in the house?

Growing up, my brother and I had a habit of misplacing our shoes so my mom had a rule that if you took your shoes off it was time for a nap or bed. So it took an act of God to get those things off our feet! I think I was about 20 before I was broken of that habit! However my 34 year old brother it still takes awhile before he thinks of taking off his shoes. My DHs family all take their shoes off when entering any of the homes. So I have gotten into that habit as well! At our house DH always takes his shoes off, I generally do. My family some do, some dont, it doenst bother me either way.

Most of our friends see our shoes to the side and take theirs off too! I really dont care, whatever is more comfortable to them! However if I could train my puppy to wipe her paws before coming in I would be such a happy person!!!

I hate hate hate it when someone asks me to take my shoes off and I am not wearing socks. I feel soooo exposed, I have nice feet, I just hate walking around someones house totally barefoot, I wish they would at least offer me socks.

I always take mine off at home and so does FH. Sometimes I take them off at other peoples houses too especially if they are wet and snowy. I think it is soo rude when people track snow and mud through my house. (and on my white rugs )

In the winter, definitely take them off as soon as we come in. In the summer when I wear flip-flops or sandals I usually don't take them off unless I'm in for good, but that thought about the public restroom just grossed me out and I will think differently now

If it's raining or snowing I will take them off at other people's homes too whether asked to or not.

We take our shoes off as soon as we get inside.
Especially with our place being brand new
