Do you wear shoes in the house?

Original post by jags77

Growing up, we never wore shoes. DH and I don't either and my friends take their shoes off when they come in knowing that I hate shoes in the house.

The ILs, however, hardly ever take their shoes off. It is so annoying. I hate all the sand and wetness from the leftover snow getting all over my newly renovated house and my new rug in the den.

I've asked DH to say something but he never does- usually he forgets.

ETA- They never use coasters on my wooden coffee table even though they are sitting right there!! At least DH is better about putting them under their glasses. You'd think they'd get the hint.

I only take my shoes off at the door if they're wet or muddy. Otherwise, I usually kick them off when I sit down on the couch or computer, for my own comfort.

I hate being asked to take my shoes off at someone's house, especially if i'm wearing sandals and no socks!

i agree that it is kind of 'tacky' to enforce people to take off their shoes. i used to automatically take them off at other people's houses if i saw shoes by the door. now, it isn't about cleaning, though. however, the need to vacuum isn't as great. but for us, it is aobut comfort and sanitation. to think where my shoes have been grosses me out and also, at the end of the day, after standing for 8 hours, it feels sooooo good to take them off and slide into slippers.

I wear shoes...and personally i can't stand it when i go to someones house and the TELL me to take mine off. Rugs are for walking on..with or without shoes! And vacumns are for cleaning up any dirt lol But whatever floats your boat lol

AMEN SISTA!!!! I HATE HATE and think its rude and tacky to tell your guests tisk tisk take off ure shoes.

ETA: Do u people eat off the floor??

When we had carpeting nobody was to wear shoes in the apartment, and everyone knew to take their shoes off when they came in. Now in the house we have all wood floors so I dont mind if people walk around with shoes on, for now since we dont have any kids. It might change when kids come into the picture

DH and I just moved into a brand new townhouse with light tan carpeting throughout. The cable guy came the other night and my husband asked him if he minded taking off his boots since it is snowy, dirty and there is construction still going on right outside. The guy asks for gargage bags to cover his boots instead. So we give the bags. 15 minutes later we hear him call down to us, 'there seems to be a leak in one of the bags!!! Just let the stain dry before you try to clean it. The stain is only about two inches.' 2 inches!!! That is not a spot, that is a huge stain on my new carpets! I could have died! NO shoes!

DH and I only take our shoes off immediately when we walk in if they are wet or snowy or muddy or something like that. We both mostly wear flip flop or slippers around the house unless we have company.. I would never expect someone to take their shoes off in my home. I can't imagine ever telling someone to take their shoes off or someone asking me to take mine off in their home. I kind of agree with robinella - to me a house is to be lived in and dirty floors happen....

I AGREE! DH and I do the same and I hate when people TELL me I have to take my shoes off. If they are wet or mddy from rain or snow I will do it on my own but I think its kind of rude to demand guests tanke off their shoes.

I prefer to have no shoes in the house but i've never asked a guest to take them off- maybe once we move into our new home i might start! We'll see....unfortunately, DH keeps forgetting!

Re: Do you wear shoes in the house?

ok, so growing up, we always wore shoes, no idea why....as soon as i moved out, i got in the habit of never wearing them...i mean, now even running out to the garage, i don't always!...my dh, on the other hand, lives in his shoes, i swear he would sleep in them if he could (he claims he has sensitive feet and is afraid to step on anything!) - he hates slippers, so he has his own pair of 'house shoes'! this way, they don't track in mud, snow, salt, etc and he gets to still wear them...its kinda silly but was his idea as a compromise!

We usually don't wear our shoes in the house. We only ask guest to take their's off if it's wet/dirty outside - like for the past couple of weeks.
