FH & I are taking a cruise in November (can't wait) this is our first trip together since we became engaged in May.
I'm just wondering for any of you that have gone away this summer; did you wear your rings in the ocean/pools?? I had my ring sized so it's snug and wouldn't fall off; but should i stil keep it in the room safe during the day while we're on the islands doing any water related activites and only wear it at night on board the ship? What about our days at sea? While i'm in the pool just hanging out and not really submerging my hand is it ok?
Sorry-just being paranoid!

No, don't worry you aren't being paranoid. I was stupid and wore my e-ring in the pool since when i got engaged we were at a beach resort in Mex. it was a BAD idea!! I immediately had discoloration. Granted, it's a white gold ring so it's bound to happen eventually, but b/c i wore it in the pool it discolored the 2nd day i had it! now i have to get it re-dipped. to be safe i would just wear it when you go for dinner at night and stay away from water with chemicals in it. FH and I just got engaged on a cruise this past June. Whenever we were on the islands I left my ring in the safe in our room. Also, whenever we went in the pool on the ship I wouldn't wear it either. I would wear it at night, whenever we knew we weren't going in the pool, and in the morning for breakfast. I saw girls wearing their rings, but I just didn't want to take the chance. Maybe you can get a fake ring that is a replica that you can wear in the water.

I went to Disney this past summer with my family & wore it everywhere except the pool, & I didn't wear it to the beach at all either.
I wasn't so much worried about it falling off, as I was worried about the chlorine & whatever other chemicals in the pool, ruining it. And the sand and salt scratching the band & getting in all the tiny nooks.
Its exciting & you want to show it off and wear it everywhere, but I would keep it locked up during beach/water activities.
Enjoy your cruise!!

I have worn my ring in the pool and ocean before, though people haven't now gotten me worried to do so. FI and bought me a ring a year ago that I used to wear on my ring finger before he replaced it with another one ( ) so now whenever I go on vacation where beaches and pools are involved (or if I'm doing anything that might damage it) I keep my e-ring in the safe and wear the other ring, just so I have something on.

OMG I don't know what i would do if it discolored-and FI would flip out! LOL!
I think i'll play it safe and only wear it in the evenings and when i'm not getting in the water-I'll wear it to breakfast and immediately put it in the safe.
It's so weird; i've only been engaged for 4 months but i feel so weird when i don't have my ring on! I go to the gym and i'm constantly feeling my finger because it's not there!

Throughout the day the only time I take my ring off is in the shower and when I am working at the deli on the weekends (e-ring next to a slicer? no thanks!)
But I know what you mean about taking it off. It does feel weird when it's not on.

NO I always take it off as I am afraid of it slipping off........and than I will be very
Plus my brother had lost his wedding band in the pool when on vacation. Him and his friends spent hours swimming in there trying to find it. He actually got it back the next morning thanks to the honest pool cleaner at the hotel!

Re: do you wear your ring in the pool/ocean?
we spent a few weeks at the beach in europe this summer and I never took it off. the water didn't harm it (platinum, so maybe that's why?) and when I was doing actual swimming I put an even tighter plain band ring over it so I knew it wasn't going anywhere. it's pretty snug to begin with. and I never take it off, so the thought of leaving it behind freaked me out. just be careful either way!

I've worn it in the pool before, although I won't anymore because the jeweler told me since there are so many diamonds, more than likely I won't know if something is lose- and an optimal place for a diamond to fall out is in the water because it will lubricate it and potentially shift it.
I wouldn't wear it in the ocean anyway - I spend too much time in the waves getting tossed around lol

I'm ultra paranoid and I wore a fake ring when I went to Jamaica in June. I just didn't want to take any chances esp bc its his grandfather's stone (it was in a man's ring in a thick gold band). I definitely missed it for the week I was away, but I felt that I'd rather miss it for a week than forever!

I have like OCD with mine..& it's in it's box, or the ring holder on my dresser if I'm not wearing it. Off for dishes, showers etc & I can't sleep with it my fingers swell & it's annoying..Yes in the safe on vacation too..I dont want it to get all gross with sand or lotion etc...which FMIL was so nasty to me that I left it in the room while we were visiting in Florida! She's like 'that's a VERY bad habit to get into taking it off!'..like mind ur business..aaaaand glad I only have to see you once a year...lol

I went on a cruise this summer right after getting engaged and I left it in the safe. I also take it off to shower. I'm not sure If I'm not just neurotic, or if this is something you should do. Lol. I figure, better safe than sorry!

I've worn my ring anywhere and everywhere. I wore it in a pool (chlorine and salt water), in the ocean, on the beach. I don't wear it in the shower since that's an everyday thing and I don't wear it while washing dishes or my hands. It's never lost any of it's coloring and it is white gold. The hand sanitizer on the cruise did make it look a little dingy but I solved that issue by sticking my right hand under the dispenser instead of both or my left.

Your not paranoid at all! I live in South Florida (having a li wedding, bc its fh hometown) and i never wear my ring to the beach or pool! Too scary!
I would lock it in the safe in the room, atleast while you are at the pool or in the ocean.
