Do you work for a non-profit?

Do you work for a non-profit?

How has it been working at your non-profit? Some days when I hear tales from Debi's job, I can't wait until she quits!!!! Winning awards for the company, and working 24/7 doesn't immunize her from rude, nasty people!!! Sometimes, I think Debi's superiors believe she just waves her magic wand, and it all gets done!! The only one not making a profit is me...I get paid so teeny tiny little compared to what the larger company earns from my services

She works for Learning For Life, an offshoot of the Boy Scouts. She loves her job, but sometimes 'I' think non-profits ask too much of their employees! She worked at another non-profit before this job, and it was the same song and dance, longggggg hours, a lot of self sacrifice, and with that former job, even her salary was imposed upon, when they were raising money!! I could write a list of everything she has scheduled, in the months leading up to her wedding, and you wouldn't believe it. She has no time to do her own laundry, for pete's sake!!!!! Maybe if she shows up at work, in her birthday suit, someone will get a clue!!!
The thing is, she works her buns off, and still people are mean!! Of course you know us Mother hens, and how we feel when our chicks are mistreated!! She wants to go back to college and get her Masters to be a Guidance Counselor, but right now her BS in Human Dev. and Family Studies, gets her non-profit jobs.Mary 'CMH'....Cranky Mother Hen

I have to tell you, I was in the same situation and thought I'd stick it out for a year and see how it goes. I lasted 4 months and refused to let these people take advantage of me. Noone should be treated that way and she is educated so she can find plenty of work where she will be compensated for her efforts and recognized for her dedication.

Thank you, sweet Collette, your kind words soothe my ruffled feathers!!! Mary MOB

No problem...I know how hard it is to leave a job you love. BUT...she sounds like the type of employee any company would be lucky to have. That kind of work ethic is hard to come by these days! Good luck to Deb!!!

I can totally relate. I have my masters in social work and I currently work for non for profit but its a huge organization and I am finally comfortable with my salary and my work load after many years. I was in the same situation I worked by butt off was on call 24-7...not fun. People in the healthcare field and human service field definitely take a lot of abuse. Debi will get there...trust me

Thanks, Christine!! I hope it won't be long!! She is very loved and respected by her 'clients' I just don't think the bosses appreciate how much she does for them. I wonder, if and when she leaves to continue her education, they discover how much work she actually did???? Mary MOB

Yes, my company is Non-profit. It's sometimes VERY frustraing knowing that we could do so much more if we had more funding. And you would think that non-profits would get more money from grants and donations, but that's not always the case. Especially being such a unique organization alot of time we just don't quiet fit the guidlines.

For those who do not know where I work:
Cold Spring Harbor Fish Hatchery & Aquarium
which is a non-profit Environmental Education Center.
