Doc told us to let son CIO.

Doc told us to let son CIO.

Well, the doctor told us if we don't let Matthew start to Cry It Out, we will never have a child who sleeps well and goes to sleep on his own, that it will only be harder down the road and we will wind up resorting to taking him into bed with us.

I can't really imagine letting him cry for more than 5 minutes... I know, I'm pathetic. He starts gagging when he cries really hard, and I know it will kill me. Do you think we are really going to make it that much harder for ourselves? Would you listen to the doc? Advice please. Thanks.

It's hard. I've never had to resort much to CIO, until today. DD hasn't been wanting to nap or sleep and she's going to be a year on Friday. I've never, ever had a problem before getting her to sleep (except the occasional teething instance or off schedule type thing.)

This afternoon, I decided to let her CIO and that she did for almost 25 minutes. Finally fell asleep on her own and slept for 4 hours. I think she's overtired and fighting me as much as she can with her molars coming in.

I know it does get harder once they start pulling themselves up on the crib. No matter what the Dr says, you have to live with your decisions and the frustration. I think you should do what's best for your family.

Have you looked in to other options of sleep training?

I dont know if we are the exception to the rule but Emma NEVER CIO and she also co-slept till she was about 14-15 months. Now at 2 3/4 she goes to bed on her own and sleeps in her own bed with NO PROBLEMS. My ped also told us our option was to CIO. I couldnt do that and have had terrific results!!
