DOC vs. Matire’D and Bridal Attendant

Original post by JessToni

So i can see the benefit of having a DOC with me for the for the wedding day up until the reception since there is really no one around to help at the ceremony other than friends and family.

but at the reception there is the matire'D and a bridal attendant...can someone explain to me what a DOC does beyond what these people are responsible for? I guess maybe i don't really understand what the matire'D and bridal attendant do. Also do the reception halls ever mind that you are bringing in this outside person to 'watch over' in a way?

I really like the idea of not having to assign any tasks to my family or friends for the day so they can really enjoy everything :)

Thanks!

i got married at the fox hollow ceremony and everything. The matirs'd's there are amazing, with out them your wedding would not on. They make sure the set up of your room is going correctly they set up the times for all the courses, they are in charge of all the waitstaff. I had Carey and he kicked butt. All my family and bridal party loved him, my girlfriend liked him so much because he was seen in the room pouring water walking around, that she requested him for hers. The bridal attendant is all for you. She is with you from the moment you arrive to the moment you leave. She helps with the pictures and brings you drinks and stuff for thebridal party. Takes you to the bathroom and bridal suite. FM for any more help.

Honestly, I dont have the confidence to trust my family or friends to do anything. With that said, I would rather them enjoy themselves than know they have to worry about having to carry out their duties.
A DOC has an eye for perfection. She will make sure all the placecards are set perfectly and she'll have a backup list in case someone cant find their placecard. She'll make sure your centerpieces are exactly what you ordered and that everything is in place according to your specifications. She has the necessary contact information to get in touch with any of your vendors in case someone is running late or is lost. She will have copies of your contracts in case their is a last minute dispute. She will have an time line of your event to make sure everything is on time and running smoothly. She'll also have a copy of your must take picture list and make sure all pics are taken. She'll have your DJ play list and make sure they follow the do not play list and the Play list. She'll also take care of all the favors and make sure they are handled accordingly. She'll also take care of any problems that arise so you dont have to worry about it. The list goes on and on, but most importantly they look out for your well being and give you piece of mind. Hope this helps!

OOOHHH! Please FM me when you get a chance with the info!!!

And to add to Diva's list of what they do, they get out your grass stains, sew up dresses if need be..make sure you have pens working for your guest book, make sure if there is a crying kid they don't ruin the ceremony, build you a candy centerpiece cause your forgot the kids table and get you OJ when your hyperventelating cause your so nervous before you walk down that aisle..And more!!!!

It's stuff like this that has me so torn!!!

The Fox Hollow does all this for you too. They have a list of your vendors, they have 2 backup seating charts. I used to work at the fox hollow for 5 years and I have seen a DOC once. From waht I saw she only got in the way. They MatireD's to me were better. If food or somehting was not coing out on time, they take care of it, the staff reacts better to them than a DOC. The bridal attendants have sewing kits, stain removers they bustle your dress they help with everything and anything you need. I am not against DOC but I never even thought of spending more money on one, because I now how well the fox hollow runs. If your cerremony is somewhere else, mayber just hire the DOC for that.

so sorry to hear about some of these mishhaps.

I had 2 maitre'ds and a bridal attendant that was a seasoned pro. There wasn't anything I could have asked for that didn't get done. Some of which before I even knew I wanted it.

The day was perfect, including the photoshoot at my aunts house. My photographer came with an assistant and lighting assistant. I was always perfectly coifed and calm..they even brought me food!

I guess it's all personal, but a DOC would have been useless for me.

I didn't have a DOC and didn't miss one at all.

Same here! I was worried at first but there was no need, our maitre'd and bridal attendant went above and beyond and did anything and everything for us!

The Swan Club does not supply a bridal attendant this is why I am having a DOC!
