I was watching Four Weddings and I saw that they decorated cocktail hour with flowers. It didnt even occur to me to decorate for cocktail hour. Is anyone else decorating for cocktail hour?

Docorating the Cocktail Hour
We're not doing anything, our CH space has a lot of flair on its own. I know some venues automatically do something simple, like putting votives on the CH tables.
I guess it depends on the venue and what the CH space looks like, but I don't think its necessary. The guests really don't spend that much time there, and it seems like an uncessary expense.

We aren't. FH wanted candles and stuff, but I just don't think it's necessary in that space. Especially since we have a HUGE room and if it's nice out we have a whole outside area.

What a great topic! I feel that we have to something the jazz up the cocktail hour. My mom is a big fan of antiques so going to make a few centerpieces using decorative jewelry trays, and am going to a candle in a pretty colder as well as some faux flowers in the center of it.
I'm also considering getting custom cocktail napkins.

Nope! Not spending any extra $$ on a space that is going to be used for only an hour. I don't feel its neccessary.

VYC put votives on the tables anyways. I might put flower petals on the table but if I do it will be a last minute thing. The only other thing I am thinking of doing is getting napkins with our date and what not on it.

Fox Hollow decorates the tables for you so the only thing I'm doing is our picture over the mantel

We aren't doing much because our venue has a lot going on already but may do just votive candles on the tables to give the room some light and napkins. Like the others, I didn't want to spend money on decorating rooms that are only used a short time.

ours will be out side as long as the weather is on our side so I wasn't planning on having any additional decorations other than the ice sculptures

If I have additional votives I may throw them on the tables but other than that, nope!

Our RH will already be decorating with ice sculptures and votives. I do not feel the need to spend additional money on a room that will be used for an hour. I may do the custom napkins, but that's it. If my florist gives me some free flower petals with my package, then I will decorate with those, otherwise, not spending extra $$

2012 crasher here. What a lot of the other posters says is true. The room is only used for an hour so why give yourself the added expense. As for what you said about napkins, this I did do. I got both luncheon and cocktail napkins. I figured the luncheon napkins would be used during the cocktail hour and the beverage napkins would be used all day at the bars. FH was like 'why do we need those'? But once he saw them he agreed that they were cute and a nice little touch.
Good luck.

I'm not doing anything for cocktail hour. Its an added unnecessary expense. It usually lasts an hour anyway and people are more concerned about what they should eat than how the room is decorated. Plus the tables are sometimes so small (fit 4 people) depending on the hall that you have just enough room to put your plates down to eat, neverming centerpieces or candles.

I have about 120 ivory clear glass votives still in box that I never used for my wedding from Michaels. I paid 80 dollars for them. I will take anything for them. I just want them out of my apt lol.

December 2012 here - so adding my plans :) We're getting some cute little lanterns with tea lights for every other table and scattering some flowers/greenery on all of them. just something to pull the rooms together
