I'm trying to cut out things that make me gain weight and have been researching the caloric content of booze Anyway, I was surprised to find out that my cocktail of choice does not have as many calories as I thought... but I still think it's making me fat (ter) What do you guys think?

I have been on Weight Watchers since Feb and have discovered many things about my weight gain/loss! I thought that cutting back on beer and drinking would make me lose a lot of weight, which I am sure it would, however the weeks that I go without drinking I end up losing the same amount of weight, as long as I am not binge drinking like crazy every week. A few drinks here or there really doesn't make much of a difference surprisingly!
I would go a week eating right and not drinking at all and then go a week eating right and drinking and I would still lose the same amount. I agree with what some people said that when I used to drink I would eat a lot (drunk pizza!) and I think that's what was doing most of the damage. But if you are able to cut back on the binge eating when you 're drinking and have drinks that aren't as fattening (like sugary drinks etc) then it shouldn't affect you too much!
I try to stick to beer (3 WW points) and wine (also 3 WW points) and I have been fine!
That's definitely true! It's all about moderation. If you're drinking the liquor with diet soda, the drink is only 2 points.
Future McBride - 4 oz of wine (typical serving) is actually 2 points, so you gain a point! And if you had light beer, it's only 2.
omg!!! That's so awesome!! haha although I am sure the glasses of wine that I pour for myself are more than 4 oz hah!

Alcohol can also make you bloated. FH actually put tape around a wine glass to mark 4oz for me!

In my opinion...yeah....my 19 year old daughter came back from a year away at college where she 'partied-partied' three days a week drinking beer and doing shots and she gained like 15 lbs...this is a girl that was about 98lbs when she went to school and is now pushing 113!

Re: Does alcohol make you fat?
If it has calories it can make you fat.
Can bluberrys make you fat? If you eat enough of them. But you would eat in moderation.
Can alcohol make you fat? Sure. It has MORE calories than bluberrys for sure.
Moderation.
If you are looking to cut calories look at what you drink (alkie included) and cut out ALL sugar drinks. You will save yourself thousands of calories a month.

Re: Does alcohol make you fat?
I drink Raspberry Vodka & Diet Coke I think that's pretty low on the caloric chart but I'm sure it's better to just cut it out all together if you want to be really strict

Re: Does alcohol make you fat?
I havent read the two pages of resonses so this might have been said:
Personally, i think weight watchers is the easiest and healthiest way to loose weight. 'Cuting out' things helps, but then your going to crave that chocolate bar and be pissed if you cant have it, which sucks.
If i remember correctly, beer was either 2-3 points a bottle, depending on brand and if it was light etc. Liquor is about 1 point a shot and juice is high in points because of the sugar content.
If you have any more questions about WW, feel free to FM me and i can take a look in my books.
