That day will always be seared into my memory. My prayers go out to those families who lost love ones on that day. We as a people will never be the same.

I work two blocks away from ground zero. I avoid looking at 'the hole' when I have to walk past it. Every year on 9/11 I get depressed.

I work right across the street from ground zero. My view in my office is of ground zero
I can't stand looking out my window and watching tourist take pictures ( I have not idea why it bothers me so much- maybe it's because they make it seem so trival)
The memorial serivices are always the worse day here.

Re: does anybody else work by ground zero
I used to work at the world financial center (across the street) before I moved to the DC area (now I live right near the Pentagon).
I hated walking by and seeing all the people selling memorial tchoshkies. It made me angry that people were trying to profit off of it.
I still can't believe I walked by that site twice a day for 3 years to and from the subway.
I am nervous about tomorrow, I dont want my fiancee taking the metro to his job on capitol hill.

i don't like how it's become a tourist attraction either. i try to keep in mind that it is a piece of history now, similar to pearl harbor which is also a tourist attraction. honestly, i just want to tell the tourists to go uptown or over to the seaport b/c it's literally a construction site at the moment, which is also kind of strange to think about.
i think it will be wierd tomorrow going to work on the train. thankfully i take a different trainline to work now than i did back then. but i haven't been down there during 9-11 since that day, so i'm a little nervous.
does anyone know if i will need to go a different route to the world financial center? i usually take the 4 and get off at fulton.

I dont, but my FH was a Volunteer FireFighter and was there for 3 days straight, starting that very first night.... he works in the city and just can not bear going into work, so he has always taken the day off ever since.
My thoughts and prayers are with every single person who was directly and indirectly affected by that horrible day

Re: does anybody else work by ground zero
I hate that it has become a tourist attraction too. I was working in Rockefeller Center when it happened. I wasn't there that day, but was back at work a few days later. That Christmas, tourists were coming into the store from the U.S., Germany, Russia, you name it, all looking for Ground Zero. It really bothered me. It still does. I'm scared about coming into work tomorrow. I'm in Times Square now, and with the new Bin Laden tapes, it just makes me nervous. I pray to God he wouldn't hit the same place twice....

Fulton St is open tomorrow (I looked on the Port Authority website to figure out how I'm going to get to work from the PATH - there was a sign today but, it was facing so that only the people entering the station could notice it).
If you walk along the North Side of Ground Zero, you should be fine.
