does anyone else family make them just want to elope?

Original post by Rob-luvs-me

Is anyones family driving them to just want to elope? I just can't take them anymore - if it isn't the engagement party - or the fact that they can't decide if we can have one or not - then it is the not shopping for my dress until I lose 50 pounds, or threatening to cancel the wedding if I don't do everything in the way that pleases them. Then they are normal the next day!
I can't even tell them about my friends weddings because they automatically think I am dumping on what they are doing. All I have to say is my friend is using...xyz and they say -'what abc is not good enough for you. You are the most spoiled girl that I have ever met in the whole world.' I have explained to them that I am excited for my friends and I do not want the same things that they are doing but they just don't listen.

How about my Fh because he does Sh*T for this wedding and everything else he is B*tchin' about, yes I am venting now because I told him we were going to go get stuff for the favors (CDs) tonight from the computer store, but he instead calls me and tells me to meet him at the bar, I am starting school on tuesday and I want to be done with some things.. AHHHHH okay I feel better! Thanks

Because on my FMILs strong opinion, our tentatively scheduled wedding for this coming August has been postponed(temporarily.) FH and I came home from picking our date, time, and location, and his mom had the nerve of asking me to ghange the time because it was too early for her- I politely told her 'no.' The next day she advised me that her first cousin could not make it and that same evening my FFIL asked my FH to change the date, too! There is so much more to the story, but, this is the root of the problem. Since neither one of us could deal with her interference, we decided to re-evaluate our feelings on having a reception at a 'catering hall' vs. having an initmate dinner with close family and friends at a restaurant. So, we are currently in the process of checking out restaurants. I really don't want to change our date(being stubborn.) We are also are going to need a location to have our ceremony, a priest , and a rabbi. Any ideas/suggestions? Someone suggested La Pace in Glen Cove. Any one know anything about it? Thanks!

Not my family - but my bank account TOTALLY makes me want to elope sometimes.

God - I am so sorry your family is not being supportive. My mother is as supportive as she can be but she thinks we are spending way too much money (compared to the price of an average Texas wedding, we are, but this is New York and there are higher expectations here)...but its FH who has been driving me nuts. I asked him over and over to please elope, please let's forget all of this mess and run away! But nooooooo. He comes from a large Irish Catholic family and he's also a cop so he wants the huge blowout party with all the friends and family and relatives, which part of me wants too (and what we're having), but honestly. The drama and the fights and the tears sometimes just don't seem worth it.
And hon, I would tell anyone who told me to lose 50 lbs - Mom or sister or whomever - to take a flying fugging leap. No one deserves to be spoken to that way, and certainly not by loved ones. Good luck.
