I'm March of 2017 and I have venue/dj/photo booked but I wanted to do it that way so I got this years prices and so I can enjoy a couple of months off before I really have to start doing other stuff!it's really up to you and how you want to do it.
also we did it early so we can start paying off the venue. we have our first payment for our venue due in may. the wedding has to be half paid off by next summer :) which takes a huge weight off our shoulders.

I think having the venue booked so far in advance is a great thing. I'm getting married July 2016 and I have everything except flowers booked. I would say not too do too much now though because ideas may change for you and you don't want to rush and pick things out without seeing everything you could. Now is your time to really explore make tons of appointments weigh all your options and start making final decisions in early 2016! I feel so relieved that I have done everything except flowers and registry and I still have like 15 months to go!

You are definitely not behind! People getting married this year are still planning! You are wayyyyy ahead of the curve. I think it's a great idea to get the big things out of the way to get this year's prices and then wait for the small things so you can enjoy.

I'm having an almost 3 year engagement. I booked all my major vendors and venue within the first 13 months of being engaged. I wanted 2014 pricing and I got it. My videographer is raising her prices because she's gotten so busy. I'd rather have it all done early knowing I got the best deal I could and got the exact vendors we wanted. We have the owners of all our companies (photo, video and DJ) doing our wedding which is what I wanted. Do it at your own pace. When people started telling me I was booking things to early, I started ignoring them. And if a vendor said it, I left the meeting lol.

I wouldn't worry. We just figured out the venue this week and are putting down the deposit down next weekend. I was reading 'The Knot' today, and they said that the average engagement is 14 months. So if that's the case, we are all seriously ahead of the game! I guess starting your research doesn't hurt but locking in 2015 prices for 2017!Welcome New Vendors
