Does anyone else feel Make-up and Hair is TOO expensive?

And why am I charged more than a Bridesmaid...

I really don't want to spend $100 +++ for make-up!

I think it's ridiculous...am I the only one who feels this way???

NO!!!! I totally feel the same way. What's more, I have chin-length hair that just needs a great blowout and I'm still going to have to pay $100+ b/c I'm the bride. I hate it!

I agree that it is very very expensive but my makeup artist made me feel like Cinderella at the ball! For the one day, I am willing to splurge!

Yes!!!

For this reason I went to my normal hair salon- I paid $35 for a nice updo and I had my aunt who is a Mary Kay artist do my makeup.

i'm willing to splurge for my wedding day too! and compared to the costs of the hall, the florist, the band, the photographer, the videographer (you get where i'm going), i think it's kind of a bargain! what'antother $100???

This is from a make up artist when I posted on the vendors board as to why make up is expensive

Thank you for asking the question. The pricing is pretty simple. I charge $115.00 for the bride because I spend about 45 minutes to an hour for her. I charge $75.00 for MOB/MOG and $60.00 for the bridesmaids. I tend to use less makeup for bridesmaids because they don't want to take away from the brides day and therefore don't want such a dramatic look. They also don't take as many pictures and as many closeups so there is no need for camouflougaing, contouring, highlighting, shadowing etc.. All these specialities require a different type of application and makeup. I would normally charge a MOB/MOG $75.00 (an extra $15.00 from the bridesmaids) because older women tend to have darker circles and more pronounced wrinkles that need special attention and yet again a more expensive concealer that I use.

I agree with the whole splurge thing...but I still think it's a rip off! Especially when I can get the SAME thing done on any other day for half the price! Why do they jack up the prices on brides?

PLUS I'm getting KILLED with all the costs of trial's.

With this ring: I just read your post. Thanks!

Either way I'm goona Splurge so I can look like I feel...but I just wish it were cheaper.

It really IS a total rip-off, splurge or not! They totally take advantage of brides.

I hear ya! Im getting it done either way for $125 airbrush. But, I didn't feel to bad when I found out that my fsil paid $200...now that is freaking nuts!

I agree that we get totally taken advantage of. I'm not sure I want to slurge on it. I hate wearing a lot of makeup anyway.
What's the cheapest anyone has found so far, and who is it with?

I totally agree. I can understand why we are more than BM, and MOB are more than BM,,,,but they should not be that high to begin with, JMO.

I am willing to pay it, but not happy about it.

Unforunatelly, it's a well known fact: as soon as the vendor hears the words 'Wedding' and 'Bride' the prices double, if not triple! It's everyone: limos, flowers, hair salons!

I went to the salon where I normally have my hair cut for hair and makeup and was charged the same amount as I always do(my hair was a little more but I think it was because it was longer than usual.) My updo was like $75 and makeup like 50. IT was actaully easier because everyone in the bridal party was having their hair done at the same time so it saved a lot of time. The makeup girl actually used less maekup on me than my mom and sister because she said I did not need foundation.

I agree with you......I asked the girl that normally cuts my hair how much she charges and the hair is reasonable. The salon also does makeup I believe for about $50...so check with your regular salon! I'm at least going to try a trial there!!

I am paying 75 for hair (updo) and 75 for makeup, and if you wnat a blow out, it is only 45, she charges the same price regardless of who you are, bride, Mob, or BM. I thought it was expensive too, but compared to what you guys are paying, i feel a bit better about it.

Re: Does anyone else feel Make-up and Hair is TOO expensive?

Not really, my regular salon did all my girls hair and she opened early and charged 25 bucks a head and then she allowed a local MK lady who is a great friend to come in and do the girls makeup and in return we allowed her to supply baskets for the bathroom and advertise in the bathroom and she also came to the cocktail hour to do retouches!

So, I think it all depends on how you do it

The Red Door Salon in Saks charges $35 for makeup---very reasonable!!!

070502--What salon did you go to that charged $25 for an updo???? Please let me know.

I am not so concered w/the $ I spend on myself. I am more worried about the bridesmaids as most are from New Orleans. I know that the average price there for makeup is $35, and average for hair is $35. I went to one of the top salons there for my sister's wedding, and these were the prices. I guess it jsut depends on the region you are in

I too feel that what I've spent and will still spend on my hair and makeup is too much...but it's very important for me to look good on my day. I have tried to find someone who does a great job but won't charge me and my bm's an outrageous amount.

I'm more concerned for my bm's though than I am for myself...weddings are a huge expense and between what they're spending on their dresses and stuff, and now makeup...it gets crazy.

Re: Does anyone else feel Make-up and Hair is TOO expensive?

I totally agree!!!! I just went last night for my trial hair & makeup and i loved it (will post pix soon) but i thought she was TOO EXPENSIVE. She charges for the bride $400 (hair & makeup) and then for the BP $250 (both as well). I thought that was a little too much for the service. I want to spend no more than $300 for myself (and that includes both) and have the girls spend $150 for both. I mean give me a break. EMO30:

I saw on other postings about Bessie from Beautiful Girls. If anyone here is using her could you please FM me with what she charges around for both. Thanks!
