like they're never going to have enough money for a house?!? Everyday I pay more bills, pay for things for the wedding, trying to pay off debt I have etc...I dont really ever treat myself to anything b/c i'm so worried I wont have money to make my next bill payments...I just feel FH and I are so behind and that we'll never catch up. Our parents dont have money to help us either, so it's not like we could really ask them for help (not that I think I would, I've always been independent) but i think it might feel good knowing we would have them if we needed it. I see people I graduated with and they are in brand new homes, driving new cars etc...usually I brush it off and say 'ehh whatever, good for them' but then there are days where I just want to cry cause i dont feel like i'm going to get there...My MOH showed me pics of her friends wedding. This girl is 21 yrs old and she married someone I graduated with. they just had a beautiful wedding, and they bought this massive house...I just wish I knew how they did it!! lol
SORRY...this ended up being alot longer than I expected. Its that time of the month and apparently i'm a little emotional

OMG...that it what I feel on a daily basis!! I try not to think about...I am the master at pushing worries out of my mind....but I just hope that everything will come together, and I don't have to leave my home and move out of state because we can't live here. We have been living in my mothers house for 4 years now, and I just want out!! It looks like all we could afford would be a crappy condo....2 bedroom is what I want, just in case we have kids at some point in the next few years!! But, if we are paying a mortgage, how can we afford to save for a house??
Very Depressing!! I feel like I will never be able to pay off my bills with the amount of money I make!! Thank god for my FH...not that he makes a ton, but he makes close to double me. Hopefully I will get a better job in the next year or so, or we are screwed!!
Anyhoo...you are not alone!
Knowin there are plenty of girls in my situation makes me feel a little better. Even though i still stress like crazy, I'm just really going to have to buckle down. I would totally get a second job to help out but by the time I get home from my full time job everyday, it doesnt leave me with much room to find another one. FH makes decent money but makes most of it doing side work (construction) he helps out alot of people who are renovating, flipping homes especially...but no one has been able to buy any homes so hes losing out big time
Does anyone need a new bathroom, kitchen, plumbing, electic etc?!?!? haha FH does amazing work! lol
You should put a post on Craigslist.
Oh wow I never even thought of that. He's going to make up business cards too. Any little job will help us at this point

I feel your pain girl. It's really hard. NY is so expensive in general. FH and Iive in Manhattan and there's no way we can afford to buy an apt here. I'd stay in the City forever but we don't have $2 or $3 million to buy a decent sized family-apt!! Going to the burbs is a more realistic option than the City but it's still really expensive. I'm scared about using my life savings for a down payment and then having nothing left!!!!!!!!!! YIKES!!!

I have plenty of money for a house because I decided not to have a big wedding.
I don't mean to come off wrong but if buying a house is so important why would you spend so much money on one day?

I think FH and I have this discussion every day. It is really frustrating that we aren't able to afford a house. We both love LI but reality is we might not be able to settle down here because our mortgage payments will be insane. We are paying for the wedding ourselves so right now we work just to pay off bills/school loans (which is like a mortgage payment for me) so we are finding it difficult to even put money away for the wedding. It's so frustrating

I know how they do it. 1- family has $$ or 2- credit and loans.. That is the way of the world.
My friends all at the same time bought a house, rebuilt it inside out all new everything and had a baby. There is absolutely no other way to do that if there wasnt loans or credit cards.
I think we all feel like we cant get ahead. Not when a wedding costs what it does.

I feel the same exact way. I just feel like we'll never be able to get a house!! My parents are helping us some..... but I really don't know where the money goes (wedding and otherwise!!)
FH makes very good money (I'm not bragging, please don't take it that way AT ALL).... I'm just saying it because even though he does, we still don't have the money to buy a house.... I really don't know where it all goes!! Yeah, we have a lot of bills.... but, IDK.
When we get a house, FH wants to put at least like..... 30k down on it..... if not more. And us getting into a house is so important, because once we are in a house and we can swing the bills, then it's time, and I can't wait!!!
It's so weird, because we have friends, that live on LI, that make less than us combined, a decent amount less, and they have homes, and new cars, etc..... how do they do it?!?! I just don't get it.
Okay, my annoying vent is over.

Oh boy do I know how you feel!!! Its so frustrating!! I keep telling FH we should move to North Carolina and buy a beautiful 2700sq ft home for $250,000! And he says we wont make as much money there. But Im not making that much here and FH isn't making hardly any and we are getting by paycheck to paycheck, so I figure once we have a few years of work experience under us we can move there and make the same crap money but be able to actually buy something. Cus if we stay here, I don't see us being able to buy a house I consider decent for much less than $700,000 and then it'll take us like 10-15 years to save for the down payment!! And I refuse to have kids without a place to put them. Okay not Im ranting on and on!

That's not true for everybody. FH and I didn't take out a loan to put a DP on the house, nor did we charge anything for renovations. We are STILL renovating, paying for a wedding, paying off school loans and living a daily life WITHOUT credit cards, loans or money from our families which will NEVER happen. It's not fair to say 'they do it by...' because that's not the case for everyone.

I am right there with ya!...I just dont know how some people do it. When it comes time to have kids I want to be settled down somewhere. I dont want my kids to have to move around as much as FH and I did when we were kids...it was the worst.

Right..... my thing is, under normal circumstances, it wouldn't be the end of the world if we had a baby before we got into a house.... but, both of our families are far away..... and I know they will be here often when we have a baby, so, we need to have the room for THEM too!!!
We're not even looking for anything crazy to start..... we're thinking 3 bedrooms, 1.5-2 bath...... then, in several years, once FH makes partner, we'll get something a little bigger.
And, the house prices are less here, on top of it..... we can get a 3br 1.5-2 bath for probably 250 - 280ish. And we're still worried that we'll never get there!

i think that she means people who have huge lavish weddings, and move into a huge brand new homes, and drive expensive brand new cars and all the other perks - those people are probably getting a lot of help. even if they are both making 100K each - its close to impossible to afford that kind of lifestyle in the neighborhood i live in - trust me i know it - we have a big income and there is no way we could afford a brand new home......but we also refuse to have any sort of credit card debt - which is another way people afford to life that lifestyle.....

Re: Does anyone else feel...(sorry a little long)
I definitely try to stay away from credit cards and loans and so far have. Ive learned from the past that credit cards are evil lol.
When i bought my apartment a few years ago i used cash for the down payment, but the way it works when you buy a house is that you put a deposit and the rest of what the house or apartment costs is a loan from the bank to make up for the total, otherwise you'd be paying for the whole thing without a mortgage loan...Lets say something costs $100,000(wouldnt it be nice) and you put a $30,000 down payment, the bank will cover the rest of the $70,000 and you pay it back obviously with your mortgage payments each month which is what mortgage payments are otherwise if we paid cash for the whole thing we'd have no payments. So regardless youll have some type of loan for a house, unless you can pay lets say $500,000 in cash lol...But its also a little different than a personal loan, this is normal procedure.
its not easy but honestly the only way i found that works for me is to break everything down and see exactly how much i need to save every month. I estimated the cost of our wedding when we first started. I took the amount of months until our wedding and multiplied it by the amount i get paid each month, i then figured out an amount i would put aside each month that will add up to the amount i would need for the wedding...This way i know exactly what i need to do to guarantee i will have the money...Honestly if i didnt do this id be delusional alot of times, thinking oh i put this much aside so its ok but it wouldn't be. I dont go below the amount im supposed to put away so anytime i buy anything, or spend it on something i always have to think will it leave me enough money at the end of the month, if not then i wont do it. Ppl always think oh if i do this or work overtime or right before the wedding not buy anything i can come up with the money but its not that easy, so stick to a strict plan and this way you wont always worry will it be enough bc youll know from ahead of time if youll have enough and if not to do something about it ahead of time
