Does anyone else hate going to showers?

Does anyone else hate going to showers?

Maybe I'm a scrooge and I really thought it would get better after I got married, but I still dislike them. Its soooo boring and its such a nice day today. I really feel like calling my MIL telling her I'm sick and to have DH drop off the gift. I've just never been into these things. Well, I guess I should go get ready

I actually like them, if I have someone to go with. Last week I went to a baby shower and I knew no one. That was not fun.

The shower is in Floral Park. Its my DH's cousins fiancee and I really don't know her all that well. I guess it would be better if it was my friends, but its all his family. I get along with everyone I'd just rather be at the park or shopping for clothes or something fun!

I have a shower to go to also, and I had one yesterday in Nyack, At least this one is in Bohemia, and is at a restaurant, so we can only be there for a limited time, unlike a house.

I usually don't minbd goign to showers except when I have alot to go to, and when it takes up a whol weekend.

I agree that if you dont know other people, they can be kind of boring but I just try to focus on the bride and see that she is enjoying herself and remember that it's not about me, LOL. If I know other guests, of course I don't mind them, especially if it's a friend with lots of other mutual friends there. I guess having had a bridal and baby shower (and am through with being the guest of honor at showers) I enjoy them more. I was at my friend's baby shower yesterday and it was great. I think it depends on who it is, the degree of enjoyment or boringness. ie, DH's second cousin was getting married. Her Mom was at my bridal shower, wedding & baby shower but I have never even met the daughter. But we got an invite to the wedding and I got the shower invite. b/c I didn't know her, it was hard to be 'thrilled' about it but her Mom was so great with all our events so I went and was happy that she seemed like she had alot of fun as the guest of honor.

I dont mind them. It depends on who it is for. If it is someone very close, then I lOVE to go. But if it someone I know, but do not know anyone there. It is a different story.
I just drink all the punch and hopefully get a good buzz and make it through the day

I only hate getting invited to showers when I don't know the person that well or any of the people going. If its a close friend,I like going to see how happy they are.

I like showers! I love to see what the bride/mom-to-be gets! After my own shower, I realized how much I realized who was/wasn't there, so now I make more of an effort than ever to go if it's someone I'm close to.

I'm not a big fan of them either.. (it was painful getting through my own.)

But you do what you do for the people you love... that's what I tell myself atleast.

I've always hated them (but I ALWAYS WENT to every single one, because I new that someday I would have one....and if I did all that suffering, they'd have to suffer through mine....insert evil laugh ha ha ha ha ha).

No seriously, it gets very boring just ohhhh-ing and ahhhh-ing for 4 hours! My FI always says he's so lucky that men don't do that stuff.

I feel the same way.
So for my friend's shower (I'm the MOH), I told the other bridesmaids that were helping with the gifts to make sure she 'moves' through them. There's no reason for a 10 minute 'Ooh-Ahh' when it was something she registered for. Something handmade or a gift that was thought-out deserves an 'Ooh-Ahh' for a few moments. She opened the gifts in about an hour and everybody else was able to 'BS' for the remainder of the shower. The guests came up to me and raved that they had a great time.

I'm all for the quick, open the presents and run. I had 70 people at my shower and we did all the gifts in less than an hour and a half. It was an assembly line, I had about 6 people helping me!

Do you believe that someone actually complained that they were going to fast? Give me a break!!!!

Re: Does anyone else hate going to showers?

The gifts were done in under 1 hour!!! OMG!!! Tell me your method???!!!!

EVery single shower I've ever been to, the GIFTS ALONE take 3-4 hours!!!! ACHHHHHHHGGGG! And I've been to about 12 showers!

If it were up to me, we'd just have a party, eat, BS and that's it...open the gifts at home and send everyone thank yous...but for some reason everyone wants to see what was bought.

Re: Does anyone else hate going to showers?

dandj,
We got complaints as well.

They wanted her to open her Wishing Well gifts too, but I told them that those were usually opened at home.

Some of the women wanted our friend to show the wrapping & ribbon before she opened it. C'mon! So one of the BMs would tell our friend to do a quick 'show' to the one side to please those women.

I love showers (sorry)! I've always just liked being in an intimite setting with lots of women and talking about 'girl stuff'. I also really like watching someone open presents. Call me crazy

Not for nothing but I think its rude when people rush through the gifts. I think the time should be taken for everyone to get their due credit. But at the same time, I think that those women who take 3-4 hours are just ridiculous! Showers annoy me..lol but I loved mine!
