Does anyone else not have family around here?

OK, maybe I'm just an emotional mess. I've moved around my whole life trying to find the place I wanted to be.

Now I know I have found it but planning a wedding with no friends or family around just SUX some days! I want to show things to someone... and have them say OH! I love that...

I want a shower, I want a bachelorette party, but my family is all in Kansas and my freinds (BM's) are in Nebraska, Texas and SanDiego... I certianly can't expect them to travel 2 or the times and pay for hotels, dresses, etc....

Anyhow, I'm so glad I found this site and can share my little excitements along the way with you guys and get your opinions when I need them!!!

Sorry so long..... this is my vent I guess!!

Wow, that makes me feel so sad. Show us all of your wedding stuff. Be happy , Remember you are blessed. We are your family away from family. Sometimes I talk about things on this site that I don't share with my family or friends. That's just how it is. It is an emotional time. But make it happy emotions.

ME!! My mom is in Illinois and my dad is in S. Carolina. Only one sibling, brother, who is my roommate. All the rest of my family (aunts, uncles, etc) are all over the US.

I was born and raised in NY (my parents are originally gotm Illinois), but a lot of my friends have 'grown up' and moved out of NY, so I feel ya.

I am here is you need a friend to go do things with!!! Lord knows I need one!!

yes, I am from upstate and my friends are scattered across the country. It was hard sometimes but I am really lucky in that we live with DHs parents and they have become family for me.
Also I emailed and called my parents constantly!!

I'm so glad to know I'm not the only one.

OH! I'm here for you too. Neither my DH or I are from Long Island. I did my dress shopping all by myself and had no one to share those little moments. That is, until I found this site. Now I found my Long Island family.

BTW: My BM either all flew in, or drove a long way to be here for my shower and bachelorette party on the same weekend. That includes my guests too. They (BMs) didn't need a hotel, they all stayed with me.

I dont have any family here....yes it sux!!!! I have a million emails back home to my dad and sister! I actually went home to try on dresses with my sister aunt etc......so i ended up ordering it upstate as well.

I can relate. I moved from NY to Los Angeles last year. So I have to do all the planning from across the country.

I do get sad when I have to go shopping alone for wedding shoes or jewerly or when I go for my dress fittings, but it makes me even more excited for my wedding day when I can see all my friends and family.

Thanks ladies! I agree with those of you who have done this alone. Going by myself to pick out my dress was such a sad thing.

I was very excited to find a dress that I just loved. I looked at myself in the mirror and knew it was 'the one'. When I walked out, the only person to actually see me in it was a clerk who could care less.

At least she took a couple of pictures for me so I could email them to my family and BM's. Still, just not the same to get an email that says, 'Oh I love it' as it would be to walk out and see the look my mom's face....

I love living in NYC and I can't imagine my life anywhere else (espically in Kansas where my family is) but still...... sometimes its just hard!!

Oh sweatheart, alot of us know how you feel! It is really hard planning a wedding without your family. Even though I planned my NY wedding from GA (my whole family is in NY), I called my mom and sisters pretty much every day. Now that the wedding is passed, we need a break from eachother...I think they're sick of me !

If I was in NY, I would definitely go shopping with you, do lunch, all those things you miss! But, we are here for ya! Even those of us who aren't in NY! It's completely normal for you to be sad though!

I know exactly what you are going through!! I have no family or friends in the area and if I didn't have LIW to log onto, I would be completely lost. My family lives everywhere around the US, including my parents.

I'm planning this wedding against my parents objections b/c they wanted me to get married in my hometown, but they knew I wasn't going to budge. Due to that, they have been hands off on most of what has been going on - but I love Long Island and what it offers FH and me, and I didn't want to give that up, and thanks to all of you, I found the support I so desperately needed and wanted!!!!

Anytime you need advice, help, guidance, or just a shoulder to talk to, do NOT hesitate to FM me or post!!

I know how you feel, I have my family scattered all over the place and only my sister and I in Ny... There is just a lot of emailing back and forth going on with my mom and dad, I hope you feel better..we are all here for you when you need it
