Does anyone else NOT like the way they look in black?

Blakc is supposed to be neutral, basic, right?

I just tried on a gorgeous dress & not only was it not the right cut of rme, I realized black is't' a good color for me. Especially by my face, I do wear black pants sometimes.

Isn't that weird? I thougth everyone looked good in black?

If you have ever heard of 'Color me Beautiful', they divide people into the 4 seasons, depending on their skin tone, hair color and eye color. According to that theory, only 'winters' look great in black. I am a winter, ergo I do look good in black. If you are one of the other seasons, you will look good in colors I might look terrible in.

I remember doing something like that in home Ec in Jr High!

I can never place myself in those categories, b/c my hair & skin tone & eyes don't match.

I do liekt eh way I look in white, but not beige.

So. I'm the only freak out there, huh?

I remember 'Color Me Beautiful'. I found it to be hit and miss with me. They said I was suppose to look good in several colors(yellow and orange being the main 2) that I think I look like death in.

Black is a neutral, but it doesn't look good next to everyone's face. Thank god I look good in it or I would have to totally revamp my wardrobe.

And I used to wear black so much! Nobody told me I looked gross!

As much as I think 95% of my pants are black, I don't have a lot (if any, now that i think of it) of black tops (well except jackets to suits).

People always tell me I look great in red. But I think half of the shirts I own are some shade of blue (because it's my favorite color and never really thought about how it looked on me) or white.

I think it is hit or miss too, but I often get compliments when I am wearing some of those recommended colors.

I wish I could wear orange, but I look terrible in it! It took me until about age 35 to realize that off-white/cream doesn't really look good on me either - I am better in pure white.

DH laughs at me, because I do a whole 'red' load of laundry. I wear a lot of red, fuschia and pink, because they look good on me.

I know-- I had such hard time picking a hair color & I don't think I got it right. Maybe that's why black looks even worse on me now.

I don't know if I am warm or cool.

People tell me I look good in turqouise, burgundy & dark purple. I like white & brown.

Who knows, but I need to find a dress by Ocotber & a color that doesn't make me look

Sometimes it's not a color that doesn't look good, but the FABRIC the color is in. Just like red comes in many shades and looks different on every fabric, some blacks are darker or lighter depending on the fabric. Maybe the fabric you had on didn't flatter you in black? I'd keep looking.

P.S. - I doubt you could ever look gross.

Thanks, but I have a whole host of pictures that say other wise

It was, I don't know. . .dress material! Acrylic? I was thinking about that, b/c black tank tops aren't as bad, but they are cotton & spandex, so they aren't 'as black' as shiny synthetic dress fabrics.

But even in less balck black, I still wouldnt' LOVE how it looked--I'd just hate it less.

I don't usually look for black dresses anyway, just to be different, but this one was just pretty.

I don't always like myself in black, either. I think I look better in navy or dark brown.

If you are looking for something dark because it would be slimming (I think that is the main reason for choosing black) maybe you want to try navy, dark brown, dark green, eggplant/plum.

Or if you think black would be the easiest to find, maybe you want to accent it with a colored wrap.

No, I wasn't looking for something slimming. dark colors are usually dressier for evening, but the
the first dress I tried on was ivory & blue- sort of a wedgewood blue. Very pretty. Just not the right style for me.

Anyway, this black one jsut caught my eye, usually I ignore black dresses , b/c they are boring, but it had some beading & was pretty, but it just struck me, how bad an idea black was for me. I guess it is good that I don't usually wear it.
I have worn purple & blue to weddings in the past. My fallback dress for this wedding is brown.

I love brown dresses....in fact, I have a couple if you'd like to borrow any

I have a ton of brown! DH says it's an old lady color though.

Fortunately, Dh likes brown. My brown dress isn't old lady at all! I bought it for my reharsal dinner, but then realized it was too low cut for church! Actually the one I wore instead was brown & pink, but it's not fancy enough for a wedding.
