I have always been told that the world's biggest truths are told in joke forms because people are too chicken to say what they mean. To say it in IM is even worse!

Well, I must say, as soon as I get an invitation in the mail, I fill out and mail out the RSVP card within the next day.

What really is the need to hold on for it so long, ya know? I never understood it, and I guess b/c my response to others is so quick, I would expect the same from others.

So, I can kinda see where this bride is coming from.....just an opinion

that is very rude and completely inappropriate of her!

Is it rude - absolutely.
Is it uncalled for - probably.

IMO: I'm sure you wouldn't want it to happen to you, so hurry up and RSVP.

That's why there's a date next to the RSVP, and people should seriously take that into consideration b/c if everyone was doing it, and not replying on time, it does hold up everything (including the reception site, which wants a definitive#.)

I agree that she really shouldn't have said anything at all to your FH BUT as your deadline draws near you might have the same feelings as her. Not saying you are going to express them but you may be on edge too.

As a bride anxiously waiting responses from the 120 people who have failed to respond after having the invites for four weeks already, I can see where she's coming from.

So, she didn't use the best tone and choice of words. Here's an idea of what she may be concerned about and why it would be helpful to her to know if you and/or FH are coming:
- making her minimum or dealing with a room's maximum capacity
- number of CPs (cost of florist)
- number of favors, menus and all other pp items

Personally, I'm counting the days until I can start calling my deadbeat guests.

There should be nothing to say to anyone until you are past the RSVP date.

No, this does not apply to her because she is having her reception at a chinese restaurant (we weren't invited to the morning ceremony and cocktail hour, where there probably is a minimum). chinese restaurants do not have minimums to fulfill! she told FH that she wanted a fast answer bc if we declined, she can invite other ppl. but whatever, my problem were her choice words and the fact that we were not late.

And here is a real life demonstration for all those that ask if two sets of invites are needed - different RSVP dates for the A list & B list so maybe this won't happen.

I do agree that she should have waited until after the RSVP date (plus a few days for mailing time) before trying to verify the count.

She went about it rudely, yes, but honestly, I don't blame her. I guess you haven't sent out your invites yet...but you'll see how frustrating the whole thing is.

Well said!

I certainly don't agree with the TONE in which she spoke to your FH .. it was a bit rude and childish. But honestly, I do not see WHY or HOW it takes anyone up until the WEEK BEFORE an RSVP is due to actually figure out if you are attending a wedding or not (with the only exceptions being if you are ill or having surgery and/or might be waiting it out to see how you are feeling, etc)

Truthfully, its probably not just YOU and your FH that haven't RSVPd.. its probably plenty of folks. So try to put yourself in her shoes for a minute and try to think how you'd feel if you were still missing COUNTLESS RSVPs and knowing you'd have to start calling and/or hunting people down for their reply..

As Jimmysbride said - you cannot understand completely until you are in that position.. trust me it s ucks when you want to start doing seating charts, etc and the last thing you feel like having to do is start making phone calls . So when your invites have been mailed , and you are getting down to the wire and still missing so many replies.. you'll perhaps think differently of this situation

ETA: I didn't mean to sound harsh, and again its no excuse for her rude behaviour!

Have to hound. when you get to that time you will realize. MOST people that do not send it in the week they get it forget to send it in at all. This is my experiance. Also, sometimes there is an issue. Like I had someone that did not know how they were going to get here, but instead of telling me this so I could give her a simple solution, so never mentioned it. So me hounding her finished the deal. Also, room reservations. I hounded people about that, and they still didn't listen. Now I have guests without a place to stay. Trust me, you have to do everything yourself.

that is another thing, I consider people who wait too long as most likely people who don't really want to go and I would rather invite people who do want to go.
