Well, I certainly think it and I don't understand why people don't send it back right away, but I wouldn't hound anyone until at least the day after the due date.

sorry, but for all of you that think you wont hound people before the date. Make sure that you put a MONTH in advance on your RSVPs. Because after that you make your menu (so if anyone has any dietary needs you need to know them a month in advance) you need to find out your placesettings, which will change over and over again, and you have to deal with the parents that call a month in advance asking how much it is going to cost them.

But see, I never planned a wedding before and didn't realize that I should have put a week earlier and by that time I was STRESSED and freaking out a little by other things, so maybe I jumped the gun a little. Cut the bride some slack.
I gave people about a month, which I thought was plenty of time, but if I had to do it again, I would have mailed them 2 weeks earlier with a month to reply. I did email the few people I was pretty sure were coming (mostly family), but who didn't answer a few days before the deadline, but I was nice about it and I don't think they cared. In fact, most apologized for not sending them sooner. Some people never responded and the ones I wasn't sure about, I called after the RSVP date.

Looking back, I wish I'd made the RSVP date six weeks early. Many people need to give final numbers (and pay) two weeks before the date. This means that you only have two weeks for hounding deadbeat guests if your RSVP date is one month prior.

Exactly! And unfortunately, many people don't know that until after the fact.

But everyone know it's only human nature that some people are always late. Why wouldn't you give yourself extra time by setting an earlier rsvp date?

I think its extremely rude! If she needed the responses earlier, she should put an earlier date on RSVP. Even as a bride to be myself, I realize that everyone in my life has their own life and it does not revolve around my wedding!

I agree that she really shouldn't have said anything at all to your FH BUT as your deadline draws near you might have the same feelings as her. Not saying you are going to express them but you may be on edge too.
Yes, I have to agree with the above poster. My invites are out and have been for two weeks now. We are having a fairly small wedding. The first rsvp's I got back were from couples most recently married because they know what it's like and my FMIL. Until you go through it you don't really understand. Three months before the wedding you have so many things to do you really wish people could send back the rsvp's right away. The real problem is most of the no's wait until the last minute and then that's a problem if a bride doesn't meet her minimum. I sent out STD's 11 months before the wedding and my wedding is on July 4th, I'm sorry but most people know if they plan on going or not yet some of my cousins will still wait until the last minute. With the exception of two cops, no one else can say they had to work that day.
For any party people should really rsvp asap. It makes it so much easier on the host.

I think that was kind of rude also, but she may be just very very nervous and excited?
