some guests of FH are now telling us that their guest/wife won't be attending. I certainly can't get the money back for them...and they said it so nonchalantly. This makes me fume when people have no respect for others. What do you think?

did they originally respond with their wives names on the response card? if so, then yes - it is rude!

That is very rude!!! When we finalize everything-we are telling them less than the RSVP's we actually received. Ex: If we get 175 yes' then we will tell them we got 160 yes'. We'll pay the difference after the wedding.

It is very rude...but you're always gonna get the people who do that. I really don't know why...if it was a legitimate excuse it's one thing but to just say it nonchalantly that is rude.

I don't know if that is a good idea. I mean, then you put them on the spot. Having to set up tables. And honestly, we only had two people not show and only one of them was a date. The other was ill. If you know you are going to have 175 people, please just pay for them and have them be prepared! 15 people is OVER one table's worth of people! It isn't about the money. I don't even know how they would set it up on tha short notice. And those 15 or so people would have to sit together.
I wouldn't do that.
On topic, I agree that it is rude. But your wedding is next weekend, right? Look at it this way, they may think you haven't made the final payment yet and are trying to be helpful. Our final payment wasn't due til the thursday before the wedding. My uncle's gf called my mom the monday before and said she had to go into the hospital and she wouldn't be able to come even though she RSVPed yes. So, my parents didn't pay for her. She didn't know that they payment wasn't due, she just was trying to be polite rather than just not showing up.

I agree. I think it is rude, but people do it all the time. I don't get it and I would never do that, but I know I won't be able to change it.

Yes, it's rude so close to the wedding, unless they have a valid excuse.

Yes, totally rude! We had people do that too We also had the lady that INSISTED in brining her daughter (some of you may remember the story) and caused problems during the last weeks of wedding between parents- me and IN laws..and Dh and I...DIDNT EVEN BRING HER DAUGHTER!!!!!!!!!! People really have NO CLUE...expect a few not to show up at the wedding too- it ***** but its the way it is..
