Does anyone else work with difficult tees?

I work at the FL Chamberlain School in Middleboro, MA, and I am the music teacher. I am having such a hard time adjusting to the whole restraint procedure. I am very nervous that I will break a bone(many colleagues have), and I am very concerned about contracting Hepatitis(my body rejected the serum). I just don't feel comfortable working in this environment, but the money is better than any where else I applied, and we NEED the money. I don't know. It's hard getting used to kids screaming that they F-ing hate you all day. I've tried EVERYTHING, and they are just totally ODD and it's wearing me thin

They are technically emotionally disturbed teens, not just difficult. I meant to say that.

I used to work with Autistic children for 3 years, and it was very difficult. But I had a lot of patience.
I had to restrain many students, not that they were going to harm others, but they engaged in self-injurious behaviors and were at rsik for injuring themselves.

Yes, it is very diffilcult, but I LOVED what I did, it was self-rewarding, but after 3 years I was burned, and went to a public school.

Are you a teacher?? Can you find anything in a public school.
You shoud be commeneded for working with the population that you work with, it is very hard.

I am a social worker and work with difficult teens. I know it is hard when they are screaming at you, but it is usually because they have so much going on and horrible lives at home.
They need extra attention and love- and too often get screamed at by teachers who don't understand them.
It is a hard situation for teachers- they are not trained in dealing with the kids in that way- their job is to teach, and they have so many students it is hard to get wrapped up in the personal problems of one. (or many)

If you cannot find satisfaction in your job...get out...your happiness is important...other jobs pay money...its not worth your mental health...

I am a special ed teacher. I have been in SPED for 5 years now. I love my job but am burned out. I think I need to go into reg. ed for a few years to recoop. I have K-1 self contained, and although 99% of my kids so far have been non-violent, I had one last year that put me and the school psyc. into the hospital with severe concussions. We did know how to properly restrain the child, but the incidents happened just before an episode, without warning. He used to bite us, pinch, kick, scream, push and go after the other children. We tried hard to get him out of our building, but the parents threatened lawsuits and the administrators (it was their first year- all of them: building principal, superintendent, and special ed superintendent) just OK'ed everything the parents wanted. It was a horrible year that I will never forget and never want to relive.

Sorry to ramble. You brought up many memories. Best of luck to you!
