Does anyone ever feel like the weekends aren't theirs anymore?

Does anyone ever feel like the weekends aren't theirs anymore?

OK I need to blow off some steam on this. In 3 months my life will no longer be about me- fine no problem. I can't wait to have my baby and experience life through my babies eyes but with that being said:

DH and I do not see each other during the week because we work opposite shifts. I have had several issues with this pregnancy and tire quite quickly. I am still working full time and doing other things. When I come home during the week I just VEG, I don't want to move. On the weekends I would like to work around the house, relax and maybe sleep in a little but EVERY freaking weekend we have something we HAVE to do.

Next weekend would be the first weekend that we don't have to do anything and guess what DH decides to do? Throw another party! This will be the third one that I have had to cook and prepare for in my pregnancy. We both love entertaining but I don't have the energy to cook for all these people. Oh and did I mention I am not invited to this party, this is a boys party- FOOTBALL

Now I am sitting here completely exhausted and I am waiting for his sister and BIL to pick us up to drive to his other sisters house in Jersey. While I love the sister in Jersey and rarely get to see her and her family I WANT TO SLEEP!

Tomorrow I have to run around with my mother all day and help her, then I have to do the food shopping, cleaning and my grading.

Ok sorry for being such a brat I just needed to say this to someone.

Off to get ready now

I say tell him to have it catered or bring in some subs or pizza !!! No way would I cook for that if I was exhausted, and I love to cook!

i agree i would get a menu from a good catering place and order in they specials alot and it doesnt run all that much money and you wont have to cook. you also buy some stuff and maybe your dh can cook.

Holy Mackeral! That sounds like a full jam- packed weekend for me and I'm not pregnant!

I am sooo selfish about the weekends. I work really hard all week, leave my house at 6:15AM and get home at 8PM and am wiped out. I do not make weekend plans lightly.

This means I do not see friends or family as much as I'd like to, and as much as they'd like to, and I have gotten slack from them for it. But it's the only way I can stay sane.

I try to have every other weekend one in which we have no obligations to anyone. If I were pregnant, I assume I would need/want more R and R.

It seems to me that it would be totally ok for you to tell DH that he can have a party but it has to be at least partly catered. Nothing fancy, but maybe a 6 foot hero and some salads from a good deli, maybe some wings.

Have you talked to your DH about it? About how you need rest? YOU are the one who has to go through all the physical exhaustion of the baby and hopefully he can be understanding. You need rest!

I hope you have a good visit with your SIL today.

Thanks Lisa, you are right. He is going to bring in half the food but I still have to make ziti, chilli and something else for the boys. I feel bad telling him no because he is doing so much around here since I am limited in my ability to help him. I almost wish the brace on my wrist wasn't removable then I could use that as an excuse but it is removable so no excuse oh well

Anyone feel like cooking for 25-40 guys next weekend???

OMG Jamie..I'm so sorry to hear this!!! You should really say something to your DH about how you feel, not about not seeing him, but about the fact that you really shouldn't be overexerting yourself like this. It's not fair to you.

IMO, if he is throwing a football party that you're not invited to....let him take care of the food. Ask him to ask the guys coming to make it pot luck...one guy bring wings, one guy bring beer, one guy bring chips.....then they can all chip in for pizza or your DH can get a platter of sandwiches or a hero. Why should you have to worry about it???

I agree I would just order wings and pizza and call it a day. You deserve your rest!!!!

Between my 12 year old, my jobs, cleaning, shopping, and everything else it's never me.

Seriously?

Why not? I'll come over and just help you cook. I love to cook. And don't laugh, but I don't eat a lot, so it's just the action of cooking. You could boss me around and tell me what to do and all!! (get your mother training started early!)

Seriously, you need help, that's a lot. Call in the troops. I always felt women were stronger as a group because we back eachother up. Honey, you're preggo.. ASK for some help!

I'm willing! Nothing planned for next weekend either!

Assuming you can deal with me chatting non-stop! LOL

ETA: sorta make it fun.. girls in the kitchen, guys doing what they want elsewhere.. and no this isn't a 'women's lib' thing but sometimes girls just need girl time!

Yes, it stinks to work hard all week and have no time to yourself on the weekends. I am dreading February because I will be in class for 3 weekends all day...So I will be very cranky.

So you have to cook for all these guys for their party.... but you aren't invited and you have to leave once it starts?

I am not sure if I read it right... but if thats the case... i must say thats pretty ballsy of him and i'd be pissed too. LOL

Jamie....go, I repeat - GO right NOW to the deli and order a six foot hero and call it a day!!!!
Then, make the appointment at the spa for a day of pampering on the same day of the 'party' aka... male-testosterone-ball-scratching-boob-oggling-football-cursing-fest!!
YOU DESERVE IT!!!

Jamie!!!

I agree with some of the other girls who say to just have your DH order heros or pizza or something like that. I'm sure DH will understand that you're just not up to it now...won't he?

I hope you get some time to relax soon...you're definitely going to need it and you deserve it!!!!!!

Re: Does anyone ever feel like the weekends aren't theirs anymore?

Thank you all for the advice! I am talking to him about it. Right now he says that he will pitch a tent in the backyard and BBQ hamburgers and hot dogs for the guys, but he would really like me to make the chilli and the ziti. Here is the thing- Ziti is not bad at all BUT my Italian husband will only have sauce from scratch- period no JAR sauce EVER!

DJ- I am not invited because I will admitted it I am annoying to watch football with. My attention span lasts about 5 minutes! I don't have to leave but it's a guys day I am not supposed to invite my girlfriends over So I can still be here no problem but I have to deal with all the testorone Too much yelling and loudness for me, so I think I will be at my Mom's for the day. He thinks they should all leave after the night game which honestly ticks me off more than anything. Day game is one thing but BOTH!

He says he will clean the downstairs and do that but it still involves me being displaced.

He certainly deserves the day with his friends, he never does that! If we hadn't been so busy lately I don't think I would care at all. Thank you for the advice again and I will talk to DH again.

Veronica thank you so much for the incredibly sweet offer!!!!

Tell Frankie to forget it!! You need to rest sweetie! I know about how precious free time is; I live for those few rare seconds that I can actually contemplate what I want or have to do next. You should not be making this stuff for his friends. Tell him lump it or leave it. Not your party, not your problem
