I've made so many compromises with my parents, FH and BP with what they're wearing, the times for the rehearsal, bachelorette party, the colors for the wedding so people look good etc.... I feel like I'm not getting my way on a lot of things. I actually stopped telling people what I'm doing so that they don't talk me out of things. Anyone feel the same way?

Re: Does anyone ever get the feeling...
I def have felt that way. First was location. I live in Mattituck, so I'm way out East....I wanted Villa Lombardi's in the WORST way....well EVERYONE, even potential guests whined about how far of a commute....so I compromised with the Vineyard (they are terrific)...which is at most a half hour away from our closest friends and family. Then the date. I wanted a February wedding, for whatever reason....FH's Mom had a prob with that....we change to Halloween and she's FREAKING!! UGH!!!!
I hear you though.....just try to remember, it is YOUR day....and in the end....I don't think the little things will seem like a big deal.

It happens, people just want to 'help' . . . thankfully people have had 35 years to learn not to screw with me . . . . . .

Even though I am not paying a dime- I feel like it's totally our wedding and not our parents. They are letting us do whatever we want, letting us get whatever we want and so far it's been so good!

Re: Does anyone ever get the feeling...
Thankfully this has not been an issue, my parents have been generous enough to pay for a big share of the wedding and FH and I are paying about 30%, since we're paying, we're the only ones who have a say, and after being together for 10 years, we're not compromising for ANYONE!!!! Don't let other people dictate what you do on your day!!!

Re: Does anyone ever get the feeling...
I actually did not want to have a wedding because I know that is going to happen. It is already kinda happening. I BEGGED FH to elope but he refused everytime. So now we are engaged a second time, planning a wedding a second time, and dealing with other peopls sh** a second time. You should just remind people it is a marriage not a wedding and the more they make demands and requests the more it takes away from the fact that you are getting married!

Re: Does anyone ever get the feeling...
OHHH I totally feel you on this. It is worse if families are paying or contributing. My family is worse than FH's. They want a say in everything, critique all our decisons and beleive me the list can go on. I get very angry and am trying not to turn into a bridezilla at all. I think if I jsut yes yes them, it will work out in the end. FH is so much better when it comes to dealing with them then me. They dont want to do any leg work at all but just give opinions and critiques. But, I do have faith that in the end everything is going to work out fine and that everyone is really happy so I keep that as my motivation not to lose it.

Re: Does anyone ever get the feeling...
I completely understand you! We are paying for 'My Mom's' Wedding. Thankfully I like her taste and so far no big trouble. We initially wanted to get married in Westchester, then Ireland, but now its LI. I wanted 75-100 people, its 225....
I just try to remember that I'm her only daughter and she wants me to have a brilliant wedding

Re: Does anyone ever get the feeling...
It definetley becomes their wedding to some extent or the wedding they never had. In my situation, my parents think they know how to plan a wedding but my dad married my stepmom 25 years ago and they really do not go to many weddings so they do not know much about wedding etiquette. Also, same as you. I am from nyc. FH from Li Of course, my dad wanted the entire wedding in manhattan and thought it was absurb that we decided to have the church in the city and reception in LI. Also, I was good with a guest list of 200. With every person my dad every knew we are at 310 already.
I havent felt that yaet. We are paying for everything so I think if people tried to cxonvince me to do certain things I would say um are you payable for this
exactly...we're paying so we're saying! and no one else is!

Re: Does anyone ever get the feeling...
i felt like that a lot at the beginning, but I've gotten to the point where I do whatever I want anyway. Otherwise I know I would be settling and considering how hard I am trying to make this wedding work, I just don't care anymore.

Re: Does anyone ever get the feeling...
OMG its like everyday in my house. My mom always has to put her two cents in. FH and I are footing the entire bill ourselves so I want what I want. My mom has to complain or criticize everything I do. I put my foot down a lot. I just wish she would get the picture that since Im paying Im doing things my way!

Re: Does anyone ever get the feeling...
i havent felt that yet ... since we are totally paying for it ourselves, we are making all the calls. My BP will wear whatever I chose (sorry if that sounds bridezillaish lol) but its my wedding and I paying 6grand for pics and video and I want to look at them and be like, this is what i wanted! Stick to your guns, its your day and you should have what you want
