...how expensive hotel rooms in the NYC/LI area are?
Even with discount prices for blocks of rooms, our guests will be shelling our anywhere from $150-$200 (tax incl.) per night for our wedding!
I just feel so bad even telling them about these hotels, but they are cheaper with the discount (the hotels are close to the church, but we'll still provide transportation to the church and reception and back)

I do and I don't think our hotel is a crazy rate but our guests think its high because they only know out of town prices, which are much lower.

I feel bad too. And I totally agree with this. Unfortunately its NY and everything is expensive. Nothing we can do about it.

i do feel bad and i am already getting the guilt trip from ppl....but you want to know what - they can drive home and its not gonna bother me if they dont stay - i know the rooms will be packed with our friends and FH's family so im not stressing over it too much.....
ets: i just read what i posted and it doesnt sound right....i mean that i feel really bad for every guest that is going to stay over - but there are ppl who are complaining and trying to make me feel bad about getting married - and those people, they can just go home for all i care i think i said it better this time

I feel bad too, but NYC is a million times worse. Our blocked rooms are $139/night + tax which includes a free continental breakfast each morning and will also include round trip transportation to NRC. We also got them to waive any fees for 3+ people in a room, so hopefully our friends will share to save $$$.
Edit: we are also doing OOT bags and hosting a small thing for OOT guests at the hotel the night before the wedding.

Yeah, unfortunately it is what it is. I do feel bad though, people are spending money to travel to our wedding and now they have to pay LI hotel rates. But it is true, I would do it (and have done it) for them also.

good point...I wasn't planning to do OOT bags, but maybe now I will just to make them feel a bit more special.

Re: Does anyone feel bad about...
I did my room block a year in advance and I got a rate of $121/night.... so that's pretty decent i think, I'm not feeling too bad, and those staying are cool with it, if not, they can drive home. And I am providing transportation to and from the RH (ceremony is there).

Re: Does anyone feel bad about...
we did - especially since DH's family was mostly coming from PA and upstate NY where there are NOT used to LI prices. DH negotiated like crazy and we finally got a rate at the Radisson for $99/night. This was for November 06, so it prob helped us a bit that we were 'off' season too. Try to negotiate!
I also recommend looking online to see what the hotel gets for an online rate. Our hotel had originally gave us the price of $109 until we looked it online and saw they were offering $99 online - what kind of group discount is that? Jerks! They changed it to $99 for us after we questioned them.
HTH!

I feel bad about it as well.... I have one friend who is coming from a distance and really doesn't have much money. I am going to tell her that her presence at my wedding is a gift. I don't want my wedding to be a financial strain on her and I'm just so honored that she is going to make the trip out to see me get married!

Re: Does anyone feel bad about...
i don't feel too bad because most of my out of town guests are friends that came to ny two years ago for another friend's wedding...and they stayed in manhattan and paid $100 more for a much smaller room!!

Mine are $119 or $129 depending on how many beds are in the room. I didn't book at the Inn at Fox Hollow because they are $219 and if I didn't book 70% I was responsible for the difference myself. I don't think $130 is toooo bad. A little high when you think about the gift, the travelling, maybe a plane ticket ... but very reasonable for the area. Unless you want to stay at the Commack Motor Inn or at The Pines .

I DONT THINK I NEED TO RESERVE ROOMS BUT YOU KNOW WHAT YOUR GUESTS WILL UNDERSTAND IF NOT THEY CAN FIND THEIR OWN HOTELS
