Does anyone feel like this WAYYY too much to spend for 1 day?

Or is it just me?
As it is I am having a small wedding and it is adding up so quickly! I can't believe how much we spend on 1 day!

I feel we are doing well with expenses, but it is still a tremendous expense for one day. But if you don't do it the way you want it to be, I feel you will regret it for the rest of your life! At least, that's how I feel, but again, we are having a low-key wedding by LI standards.

It is so much money. I guess I did cut alot of money our here and there, but they are places I would have rather spent the money. Like my dress, or my hair, or my gifts to parents and attendents, or my honeymoon. But all this little stuff, like favors (which I love giving gifts but come on, they just got dinner) and RD cause we are paying for that, and just junk. Man, at this rate, I would have been better off just calling people to invite them to the wedding since no one responds with the rsvp cards.
we're not doing any favors.

Yes my FH reminds me all the time how we could take the money we are spending on the wedding and put it towards a down payment on a house instead of staying in our apartment for probably another couple a years until we can afford a house!expensive:

I do think it's worth it. Looking back I have no regrets. I'm glad I did it. Would I do it again if G*D forbid it came to that, maybe not since I did it once.
While I was planning, it did seem overwhelming all the $$ that was going out. I couldn't make it fast enough.

I still can't fathom that this wedding is equal to buying three of my cars and only having them for one day.

No - It's worth it ! I don't ever want to look back and say 'I wish we did the big wedding' -Besides, I'm not really interested in taking care of a house yet, so living in the city is FINE w/ me until we save up for the down payment, which we will, the same way we saved for the wedding....... -

every day. every single day I think about this. And it makes me ill every time.
My Aunt sent me a book of wedding trivia yesterday. Americans spend $15 billion a year on weddings. and... there are 2.2 million weddings in the US each year.
The avg. cost of a wedding in the US is $28,000 - holy cow!
Now multiply all that by the divorce rate......ugh!

Money is the only thing about the wedding I am stressing about. It seems like a lot just for the essentials, forget about extras.

Everday I thought what a waste of money. I could've had it in the bank piling up for a down payment on a house. But I watched myself and my spending and I don't think I wasted alot of money for one day. And from a girl who wanted VERY simple, I was so happy with my day!

IMO, its a huge waste of money for a few hours. If I did not have this wedding, I really don't feel like I would miss out on anything. DH and I eloped in vegas this past september and that was more than enough for both of us. But alas, parents had to intervene and thus we are having a wedding. We are trying to keep it small and on a budget since we are paying for it ourselves. So much for a house this year

I can't believe how many responses my initial post got. Well I certainly feel better about not being the only one who feels this way.

You know what, I would gladly pay someone to endure all the drama for me... and I am 3 weeks into the planning stage!

to keep from throwing up on myself about how much it all costs - and how much this money would have helping in buying a home that is one step above that abandonded rest stop on Northern State I look at it as a year of fun - not just as one day. I enjoy everyminute of being a bride to be.
so, true, its riduculous to spend, but its worth it ten fold for the memories and the wedding stories I can tell my kids.

YESSSSSSSS!!! Everytime I write out a check to a vendor I get sick thinking about what else we could do with this money. We're going to be living in a card-board box the first year of our marriage, but the wedding should be amazing!
Seriously though, I agree that I would always regret it if I didn't have a big wedding. We'll see how I feel the day after the wedding though...
