Ok when I tell people Iam getting married in 2009 (I just got engaged a couple of months ago)....they look at me like im crazy for setting a date 2 years in advance. They always say 'well why not next year?' or 'wow 2009 is so far away, why then??' Does anyone else get these reactions?
I actually like the idea that I have enough time to plan exactly what i want and to make it perfect, and not to mention saving $$ is also a factor because my father is helping with the $$, but not for everything.
So i was just wondering am I the only one that gets the looks like I have 3 heads when I say 2009 wedding lol.....Its beginning to bug me.

That's ridiculous about the hall that said they don't book that far in advance. Every place I went to was pretty normal about it. It's like...I'd prefer to get the place and date I want and not be scrounging around for stuff last minute. Plus I really had no idea we were getting engaged and so I had really no ideas in my mind of what I wanted to do as far as wedding/housing/etc...so we have a lot of new things to think about.
Yeah but I've definitely gotten the '2009? We'll be living in space by then!' type of reaction from other people though...
But I think we're doing a perfectly reasonable and smart thing

Seriously, whose wedding is it anyway??? People need to just be happy for you and keep their opinions to themselves. Unless of course, they're willing to be financial sponsors

I got that too...i got engaged july of 06 and getting married may of 08 and EVERYONE was like WOW so far away...I wanted May and considering i started planning 4 months after the engagement, i didnt want to plan a wedding in 6 months...I dont understand why ppl make a big deal about it, just ignore them.
And let me tell you it FLIES, i know its hard to see now bc i used to also say yeah well doesn't feel like it...we went from say 2 years away and now its 8 months away and i cant believe it, the time really went by fast.

We got engaged in December 06 an told people we would probably get married in 2 years. Almost everyone was very understanding. 1 SIL made a comment about why so long blah blah blah and i just responded by asking her if she wanted to pay for it for me. that shut her up real quick!

Yup. But I just tell them that I waited almost 5 years for the ring and I can wait 2 more years to get married, that I am in NO rush, and then they can my booty if they don't like it.
Yeah I get it all the time. And I am only the second day into 09 so I really don't have 2 years anymore.

I used to get his alot last year. We got engaged in July 06 and even still people are like 'wow so far away'... It was the best thing i could have done though. I got the vendors I wanted and I have plenty of time to save up for it.
