yes it is

i look at it 2 ways

1. you're discoloring your skin

2. marriage is forever, but let's say something tragic happens to either one of you. That's a very painful reminder to have on your body. And should you decide to remarry, chances are you'll probably want to have it removed which is another headache. Not trying to be morbid or depressing, but things CAN happen. It's the same reason I don't buy jerseys with players names on them, you never know when they'll be traded

I agree with you Marriage is forever! But what if God forbid I was to die in a car accident or something else, and Frankie was to get married again and start a family with someone else I would not want him to have to explain that or have the constant reminder on him arm or where ever. His memories should be enough.

I could not have said this better.. its exactly the reason I would not get a tatoo with DH's name, and vice versa ... I just didn't spell it out on my above post

I wouldn't get any tatoo - they discolor, fade, stretch...I've never seen a tatoo that looks good after 10 years. Older people's tatoos that they've had for a long time always look horrible to me!

ETA: Your tastes change too! Look at clothes and hairstyles we used to wear that we wouldn't be caught dead in now. How do you know you'll always like tatoos?

Really .. what COULD you do with a bunch of old Mets jerseys that went on to play for the Yankees.. such as 'Olerud' ..

though I do still wear my Tino Martinez jersey proudly

I am thinking about getting one with his name as a surprise for the wedding, but I can't decide where. Probably something small though and personal, not somewhere that everyone can see it.

A friend of ours had her DH's husband's signature tattooed on her hiney as a wedding present. Kind of like a cabbage patch doll!

My MOH's DH has her name on his back, but he already had a bunch of other tattoos.

I would never get my husbands name tattooed on me! I have every intention on spending the rest of my life with him. That's why I married him. I don't feel I have to put his name on me.

Besides the fact that I can name at least 7 people who are stuck w/ a name or symbol from an old relationship & they all swore it would be forever.

No...but since FH and I can't agree on it...we decide that the only name he'll be tatooing on himself, is our children's. and their footprint ... if he goes for a tatoo later... thats what it''ll be

Interesting responses....

About the scenario when the spouse dies.... why would that be a painful reminder and not a reminder of happier times?

I often see people get names tatooed on them AFTER someone dies to remember them... interesting.

BTW I don't have my FH's name tatooed on me... and I don't plan on it either. I just wanted to see what people thought.

I think a memory of someone passing is nice. The only tatoo my FH will get is a fighter plane in memory of his dad who passed away. He was in Vietnam. I have a tatoo that my sister and I and a best friend of ours has. It is a sister thing. I forget i have it most of the time.

Not me, I don't agree with names. I have 2 tatoos. There's just something about having a name on my body, I wouldn't even put my child's name.

I am too chicken to get a tatoo...LOL I was really close once and then I saw a 55 year old woman with a tatoo on her arm that looked ridiculous and never really thought about it again.

Why wouldn't you get his name tatooed on you?

I have 2 tatoos already If I ever get another one it will be a toe ring... I mentioned getting 'J&R' put on it somehow (our initials) but I don't even know if I am every going to get another one!!!!

My FH said someday he wants to get all our kids names and my name on his arm. My uncle has it and it looks really nice.
