Who here has an accent? Sometimes when you dont meet people you expect them to sound different than they do. And I was wondering how many of us have accents? Anyones fh or dh have one??
I dont and neither does Anthony...we were both born here.

FH has an accent. He's from Poland. I don't have one. I did when I was in high school and then got involved in drama in high school and lost it. Now no one knows where I am from

I used to have a LI accent...but when I went to college I worked on changing it. Most people think I'm from California, for some reason.
FHs Nassau accent kicks in sometimes...otherwise, no accent.

when working in a queens HS...I picked up a queens accent...and quickly worked on changing it...I hear a twinge or two on my wedding video...but most people tell me I don't have a NY accent...
as for DH his first language was Spanish...and he learned it in Spain...he doesn't have an accent at al though...since he learned English from Seseme Street...I guess...nor does he have an American accent when he speaks Spanish
BIL is the same way...no accent either way...and he was in Spain longer

SUPPOSEDLY I have a NY Accent lol
FI said when he met me he said 'Damn, this girl is from NY!' (Like he lives so far in NJ lol)
He's picked up a little on my NY accent - I hear him with certain words. He also still has a little bit of his Greek accent. He's just a mutt when it comes to accents

I went to college down south, and every so often I have people ask me if I am from the south. I don't have a drawl or anything, but once in a while, a few words come out sounding 'southern'.

Kathy I know what you mean...my best friend growing up moved to Atlanta 10 years ago for college...and stayed...and I hear it coming from her all the time...no full blown...but I think each year it gets a bit more

I've been told I have a Lawn Guyland accent.
Other times people tell me I sound like I'm from Brooklyn (no offense to you Brooklyn ladies, of ocurse!).

I have a Queens accent. I try very hard to let my accent slip out when I am at work talking to clients and managers.
When I get mad or drunk my accent comes out strong.

I have a slight Brooklyn accent, but how could I avoid it since I was born, raised and still reside in Brooklyn.
Personally, I like my accent. I am proud to be a New Yorker and I am glad when people recognize it.

I have a Queens accent, but I never really notice it.
Though today someone asked me if I came from Boston because i sounded like I had a Boston accent

Same here...born, raised and still reside in Brooklyn. So, I guess I have a Brooklyn accent. I do try sometimes to speak 'properly' but when I am drunk or am mad...the Brooklyn is out all over the place!!!

I used to work for a german airline...and when I spoke German...people would ask if I was from the north (where mom is from)...from the south (where I went to HS for a bit)...or american...
but I think I pick up accents quite easily...

I cringe when I hear my brooklyn accent, because I've always tried to speak properly but this week while FH and I were on vacation, someone asked me if I was either from California or Texas!! I guess my accent fades when I'm away but I'm sure I don't have a southern drawl. If I get angry though, it comes out loud and clear!

I love that it's recognized.
My freshman year at NYU I was sitting in class and I was answering a question and the teacher told me - in the middle of me answering - 'Wow you have such an accent for this part of the country! Are you from Brooklyn or Queens?'
*** WE'RE IN NY!!!!!!! That just ticked me off - **** non-NYers tick me off! lol
And a couple of years ago I was in VA on line and these kids infront of me said 'Ya'll can go in front of us ya know - we'z still be deciding' and I answer 'Oh thank you' and then they had the NERVE to tell me 'WOW Ya'll have an accent now don't ya??'

I used to have a STRONG Queens accent. It still comes out from time to time!! My parents were born & raised in Dublin, Ireland so if I talk to a Dubliner (Like LIW Dubliner ) it comes out in me!!
My husband is from Tipperary Ireland & his accent is STRONG!!! (some of my family/friends can't understand him)
